If i could get a 460 i would, but the engin i have in the truck now is about to blow up anyways, thats why we are going to rebuild the other one. We are restoring the truck, My grandfather bought it brand new in 78, and it has a few rust spots. But i am planning to post a picture when we get the truck painted. It has a new front cap on it because my dad hit a tree going 40mph on ice. It has the same motor in it. i found out now that is is a 400 that is in the modified class. We have a c4 trans, and 3:50 gears we put headers on the motor, thats the only modification on the one in the truck now. The new motor we have a edelbrock 4barrel intake, and we are going to get a holley 650cfm 4 barrel, we might buy new flat top pistons timeing chain and gear set and cam and lifter kit, maybe some more things that we have to think about first. But maybe it will run.
351C were never factory truck engines.
only the 351M and into the 80's was the 351W
351C were car motors...ran the same bellhousing pattern as the smallblocks.
the 351M's and 400 ran the same as the 429,460
352,360,390,406,410,427,428 ran their own FE pattern
May I suggest that: since you're looking at a new timing set anyway, why don't you try to find a gear driven timing set, that will give you that nice blower whine, and they're more accurate and don't stretch like chains... If you're not sure what I'm talking about I'll try to describe it:
There is the cam gear on the top, then 2 small gears, side by side, both connected to the cam, and crank gears. The two gears in the middle replace the chain on the old set...
Hope you understood me;

ive only seen them available for the smallblocks.
A double roller is a very good chain though... much cheaper than Miloden Gear Drives are anyway
had one out of a 351HO after a pile of miles and it wasnt stretched noticably at all.
I saw a gear driven timing set for a 390 in my recent JEGS catalog. I don't remember the page number. If I have time tonight, I will look it up and post the page number.

Gear Driven Timing set for 351C & 429/460
I know that it isn't for the 400, but somebody said that they were only for small-blocks. Since I am still at work (I won't tell, if you won't), I couldn't look up the page number, but here are the web sites at JEGS.
Have you noticed that whenever guys talk about engines they always try to sound smart about it... You tell the mechanic what you think is wrong, not the symptoms, the mechanic changes what you told him, and it runs the same as it did before...
I think we could all use a little humbling; AWW, who am I kidding, I'm just as egotistical as the next guy, it's just that I do all my work myself so I have noone to get mad at when I change the wrong thing :-)

one thing to consider is why dont stock cars run gear drives in their cars? (most run belt drives now I believe) answer I've heard: they transmit a lot of unwanted vibration into the valvetrain and vibration is bad for a engine. a good double roller is a better bet, a lot cheaper and a good one will last the life of the engine. In my opinion
well the belt drives can be changed and adjusted without pullin off any covers. thats why.
i did see a PETE JACKSON gear drive...for everything except M/400
clevelands and modifieds have a major difference. clevelands have a smallblock bellhousing and modifieds have a big block bellhousing. also a 351m and 400m has an m or nothing on the extra metal on the front of the top of the head. a 351c will have 2 or a 4 there, meaning 2 or 4 bbl head.
I am Glad you were her to say that, cause I really started to wonder there for sec If I had Been thinking Totally wrong... LOL I wondered what in the heck that guy was saying, It looked to me he was saying something along the lines of " I have an apple But its an Orange". Any way, thanks for reassureing me i am Not Trippin. OH! I have a 5.8 liter 351M. LOL To make a short story shorter.
