I'm looking at building my 390 into a 400 horsepower (or so maybe 450) 410 C.I.D. motor. What transmissions can i mate behind it? T56? AOD? ZF? NV4500? I would really like an overdrive gear as the FE is currently killing me in fuel mileage, plus an overdrive will give it a higher top end. What are my options in adapters and such to put a different transmission on it? I currently have a C6 automatic in my truck.
Which transmission would require the least amount of building to hold up to the FE? I've heard that a modest 390 build could put out over 500 ftlbs of torque
Hey guys
I got a ? maybe ya'll could help me with. I have a 1965 ford f100 that had a 302 with an aod tranny and i took it out. I just put a well built 352 in it with a c6 tranny on it. Ok my problem is that i'm tryin to fit a drive shaft in it. On my C6 it has the 4 bolt flange with the big nut in the middle of it holdin it on. my 9" rear end has just the u joint hook up. But i was told i need a slip piece in there somewhere. What can i do here. The aod had the slip yoke on the back. O also its a swb.

you might be better off starting a new thread, but i'll take a swing.
if you can't use the shaft from the 302/AOD setup, i'd just take it to a truck shop and have them fab up a new one. i don't think they're super expensive.

Well i would but i don't have anything to give on my drive shaft. The aod has that shaft slip yoke from the driveshaft and my c6 doen't so the driveshaft would be solid from the tranny to the 9" rear end.

ok- how about using the carrier-bearing setup? that would put the slip yoke in the middle, between two shorter driveshafts.
