I have an 85 f-250 that must be emission before registration tags will be renewed. I have done a lot of work on the emissions and was wondering how to clear any stored codes and find out if everything else is ok. I tried to use a home scan tool but only have been able to scanners for EEC-4 and up. My question is, where is the diagnostic link for this truck and is there a way to pull codes off of the mil? Also any tips on passing emissions test would be helpful, I have changed the thermostat to a hotter one and did an oil change...not sure about octane boost and that sort of stuff
If you buy this book, it will help you with your eecIII. I have this book, and it has a good chapter on the eecIII. The first statement he makes in the chapter is mechanics consider eecIII vehicles "runaway" cars. That's because the mechanics do not like to work on them.
I read a little bit about it, and it's a pretty bizarre way to retrieve codes, but it can be done. You need a hand vacuum pump and a testlight.
