so my last trip out, my turbo started making a weird noise. the engine light came on and backed off the throttle. it only made the sound for about 5 to 10 minutes. then it all went away after a few minutes of going slow. i dont have a pyrometer yet so i dont know what temp i was at when it happend. i have a 2002 and i am at 97k miles. i was told by friends to take it in before the warranty is out and make sure i didnt burn up the turbo. they also said to take the chip out before i go to the dealer. well, when i bought it this summer, it came with a 4 way switch chip. i dont know what brand or what the switch does. well today i pulled the switch out and i pulled the thing off of the motherboard on the computer. when i put the key back in, the engine light came on and the truck wouldnt start. i tried to look at the chip to see what brand it is, but i cant find any markings on it at all. anybody got any help? how do i get my truck to start back up?- hobie
I know that when I installed my chip it said to unhook batteries and I did and I fried the computer because I did not take out the keys. It would not start then either. When I replaced the computer I then got new instructions on how to install and it said to disconect batteries and take keys out of ignition and let sit for two minutes I then istalled it and everything went good. Maybe if it still had juice to the computer the prongs on the chip got crossed and shorted something in there???
I would not have taken the chip out. The dealer will still know there was a chip installed in there before. It leaves a code that you can not erase and not to mention the prongs will have been cleaned off. If you un-plugged the chip with the batteries hooked up, you probably fried the computer.
