I have a local DiabloSport dealer making me two custom tunes on a revolution chip with the lighted switch. We have been refining the 1st tune for about 3 weeks. 1999 2.5L 4x2 supercab 5 speed. One week ago we made a final revision and I have been driving it untill this past monday when the check engine light came on. Code 172 "rich on bank one" I had the code reset and turned chip off. Droveit one day and turned chip back on. Check enging light came back on yesterday morning. I turned the chip off and had code reset, same code. The light is stipp off today after about 15 starts and 100 miles.
Could the chip have gotten corrupt? I drove it 300 miles and at least 15 starts from last wed. till this monday when the light came on for the first time. Also my MPG was the best ever on the tank before the light came on. Now it sucks gas like a pig 18mpg and tail pipe is black.
Well, "rich on bank one" and the lousy mileage and black tailpipe all go together. The ecu is putting too much fuel into the engine, which makes it rich and uses too much gas and is eating up the cat.
Now it possible that the chip corrupted something in the ecu, but I'd say its more likely that a sensor has gone bad. Your tuner should be able to tell you what is up without any problem.
You should of just gotten the bama programer, of all of us that use it, I haven't heard of one real problem and if there is, Doug would be on it asap and you can get 3 tunes. I know I preach bama alot, but thats how impressed I am with this product, none better.

I would like a tuner instead of chip, but I also like to deal with local people and this shop is a Diablo dealer. He put in the revolution chip with two tunes on it. Both custom tunes the first one optomized for E10 89 octane gas and the other for E85 105 octane with the Diablo lighted switch to change tunes on the fly. I am not sure if Diablo makes a tuner for my 99 four yet because that is what I told him I wanted and he said he would need to do a chip.
So far with the chip off the check light has not come back on.
Thanks Dan
It would be hard to change programs on the fly if they were for 2 different octane levels, I guess it could work if they were the same octane. You do what you gotta do, but most of trust and use bama programers with outstanding results. I burned up my computer in a 99 f-150 with a jet chip, I haven't trusted them since. Doug uses the xcaliber programer with his tunes matched to your computer code. In my opinion programer are much better than a chip. I hope you get your problem resolved. I hope he's not charging you to get the bugs worked out of the chip.
Thanks, I hope to get it worked out next week. Changing tunes on the fly is nice if I decide to run E85 and travel to an area that does not have it, I can fill with E10 or premium and just flip the switch to change tunes. You do have to shut the truck off though to go back to stock tune.
Dan
I hope that I have the problem fixed. He checked the chip and said he had the tunes reversed, but he burned me a new chip just to be safe and verified that the tunes are correct with each switch position.
What I don't understand is that I drove the truck almost a week and few hundred miles before the light came on.
