The plane isn't going to fly. The plane is going 0mph compared to the land beside the conveyor. Unless there is a wind blowing from the front of the plane toward the back at a speed higher than the stall speed of the plane It won't fly.

edit-if we have any physic majors/ teachers please correct me if i'm wrong.

edit 2-question from post 15. lets just say that there could be a conveyor that good. and all variables were perfect. (no friction of tires and stuff) with the info presented it wouldnt fly

[QUOTE=4wd]No, no will fly.

Will the level of a lake rise when a very large bolder is thrown overboard from a boat floating on the lake?

No, the water was already displaced by the mass of the boulder while it was in the boat.

If a tree falls in a forest when no one is around, does it make a crashing noise?

Yes, friction and mechanical failures cause vibrations which are then transferred thought the surrounding medium. In the air as noise.

Why does water expand when frozen and steel contracts when cooled.

Already answered above

Can you break an egg in your hands when it is placed end to end between your palms and squeezing it with all your strength with your fingers locked, palms applying the pressure against the egg ends?

No, assuming you are putting equal pressure along all surfaces of the egg. If loaded correctly the fracture strength of an egg shell is amazingly high, if I remember correctly its up around a couple hundred pounds assuming it's a good egg.

Beerstalker- Your not trying to say something weird in your first post like for every action there must be an equal and opposite reaction are you, that's just crazy talk.

You are right, if it could be kept still it would not fly. I was just trying to show that it's not as simple as the conveyor and wheels going at the same speed.

Questions like this just get engineers like me thinking way to much. I probably should have just left it as a simple no.

The belt tracks the plane's speed. That is OVERALL speed, not just the wheels. All the wheels and the engine do is push the plane forward using two different mediums.

If the belt is going in the opposite direction of the wheels and the engines, the plane is still standing still and there is no air moving across the wings. It is this moving wind that creates the lift, not the engines.

The plane will not fly.

Philosophy not Physics it cant be answered. The idea is that without an ear to hear the sound is it really a sound. Sound waves are just waves travelling through space when they are heard it becomes sound.

Depends on your definition of sound. To most it would be vibrations with a frequency in the audible range.

Therefore a tree crashing would make vibrations in this range, hence making sound.

If it is not sound because I can't hear it, then what would you call sonar or LFE.

Sigma...congrats on posting a great topic! Got a lot of people thinking here.

Too bad it didn't include a poll to show how many think it will or will not fly!

Which, by the way, it WILL!!!
