hey guys im new to the forum and i have a 99 f250 crewcab short bed 4x4, and i have a k/n intake and custom 5" stacks, and im looking for a performance chip, i want one with big horsepower gains, ive seen some with 150hp soo i want one around there, which one would you get
also how much horsepower and torque do you guys think i have right now to the wheels with only the intake and stacks?
Well im guessing you have a deisel, If you want big preformance goto BANKS for ther new turbo, intercooler and chip upgrade. THat with your other mods will make a HUGE difference. Other than that i think edge had he 5 setting chip that is bad *** and you can change your settings while your driving which is a total plus.
go with Dp-tuner.com and have Jody Tipton program the chip for you.
Its a 6 position flip chip and can have custom burn for you also.
There are stock, high idle, 50, 75, 100, and 145hp settings or somewhere in there.
I just got a TS Performance 6 pos chip....will be getting it tomorrow!!!!
You might want to have gauges (pyrometer at least) to watch your EGTs (exhaust gas temperatures)
In my opinion, DITCH THE K&N! They are not good on PSDs because the oil on the filter gets sucked off by the turbo and with that oil comes dirt. Try getting the Wix filter #46637 from www.fleetfilter.com.
check out my gallery for pics of the install.

I call BS. There isn't any such thing as a 145HP tune for a stock 7.3L. Really easy to claim 145HP if you add in the gains from all the other items added to the truck.
I'd like to see dyno charts from a properly loaded dyno showing those numbers on a stock truck, without cheating by posting numbers after the stock limiter kicks in.

Its a 140hp setting sorry. The trucks injectors and HPOP (high pressure oil pump) can handle that with no problem...the tranny needs a little beefing though.
Go ask the guys in the 1999-2003 7.3L Forums about it if you like.
there is nothing you really HAVE to add....intake and exhaust are about it just to keep your EGTs (exhaust gas temperature) down and the tranny mod (on autos) stick none needed.

No stock limiter with that program. I've got 2 140 programs. The rev limiter is at 4200 rpm's.
Exactly my point... I bet you will not find a 140 HP increase on any dyno chart anywhere on the stock rpm curve. When the stock limiter kicks in power effectively tanks, and measuring the HP after that point inflates numbers for the purpose of marketing. You need to measure both peak gains, and highest gains compared to the stock rpm curve.
I have yet to see anyone show a stock truck (ie, stock intake, exhaust, turbo and injectors) getting 140HP gains on a dyno, especially with anyting near safe EGTs. It just ain't gonna happen. Saying its a 140HP chip but you need an intake and exhaust to get it is really saying the chip has a whole lot less power (because part of the power gains are from the intake/exhaust).
We've yet to see any stock truck with any chip pull those numbers or any other real proof.

Who said anything about a stock truck? Strokethis the man asking for advise, said he had a K&N intake and 5" stacks. With all your wisdom and experience, you should be able to give Strokethis an idea on what kind of power he should expect, with a chip or programmer, with his setup.
Anytime you start pumping the fuel to these things you have to watch your EGTs and more than likely when you turn the dial on a TS chip to 140 or extreme tune, as some call it, the temps will soar.
There is no need to bad mouth a product, just because you don't sell it.

I'd agree with PowerStrokeMe - you can't go wrong with Jody - awesome transmission shifting, and much better, and smoother power than I had with my previous TS chip!! Give him a call - he as a great guy to deal with!!
