Stacking power chips

Wanting info on stacking power chips. I know that the info is here some were but with no search available can not find. Need to now what chips can be stacked. What is the real horse power gained. And how it is done. Have heard of people stacking 3- chips and getting up 300 extra horsepower? Dont know if it is true. And can You: lets say use a superchips programmer, and a bullydog mount in power box with the dip switch. Thanks for any info.

Welcome to the only family Ford Truck site, on the net. The members in this forum are very knowledgeable about these engines; they will eagerly help you…with your question. If you have a minute check out the Guidelines, it will help to understand more about FTE and how it operates.

Be sure to check out the 6.0 Bible…..great reading

…. In the upper right hand corner of your screen check this out PARTS SHOP for all your “trucking” needs

Must read...if you like trucks

Number 1, stacking a fuel box and a programmer will only net about 25 extra horsepower to the wheels vs. a single tuning unit; injector pulsewidth, timing, and boost can only be raised to a certain level on stock components.

Number 2, stacking can run into numerous problems with the electronics- the injector timing will be severe (bad for connecting rods, bearings, piston skirts, ect.) and the turbocharger VGT duty cycle will be raised far beyond the safe limits (over time will destroy the compressor/turbine shaft bearings). The power is only marginal for the potential damage to the engine.

There is custom programming available to do so safely, just search around. Motorhaven (this site's sponsor) carries a great number of tuning devices and modules for the 6.0, along with gauges (which you BETTER have if you even have these thoughts in your head to begin with) and exhaust systems.

My personal recommendation is a Superchips 1704 Max Microtuner. You can pick one of these up from Motorhaven, just go to the top left of your screen and click on "Parts Shop". It is the best 350 dollars you can possibly spend on one of these trucks, and is by far the best off-the-shelf unit available right now. Try it and see how you like it, if you need MORE power, just come back here...many more references to SAFE power are available.

Don't do it.

The gains are not even close to cumulative, and all that injector timing will wreak havoc on your engine.

The programmer adds it through the program. The inline devices stack on top of what the program provides.

In some cases, you can lose power.
There will also be a serious problem with overfueling, and the program will have a lack of acceptable drivability.

Don't do it. It can seriously cost you an engine.

You'll find the search function at the top of the page on the light blue bar along with a number of other links. You can enter a search word or phrase or chose advanced search for more options.

Absolutely. With two devices on high settings, the timing can become so advanced that the engine will develop dead misses, and produce nothing more than smoke. Depending upon how the fuel box in question operates, the advance could literally be exponetial. At some point, fuel would be delivered during the intake cycle- this would have just about the same effects on the engine as a wet nitrous system. It won't last long at all.

Don't do it unless you want to have problems. My snowmobile buddy tried this and went through three turbos in a month. Got rid of all of that and put in one tuner and all has been well. He stated that he has a little less power but not enough to really make up the difference of the reliability he has recieved since going with one tuner.

Already have Superchips 1704 Max Microtuner, 4'' magnaflow turbo back, and Intake. I have heard of people stacking chips that plug into the computer and getting 300 extra horsepower, to make a total of about 600-800 horsepower. Did not if this was true. I dont think that I plan to stack chips Im happy with what I have. Just sounded like something that I would like to reserch.

Sadly, that is absolutely false. Even 600 horsepower at the wheels simply cannot be made on stock drivetrain components.
