I think it depends on what you are looking for. I've got a stock 2005 SCab 4x4 and am very pleased with the "canned" performance provided by the Edge. I'm running Level 2 (tow) with +4 on shift firmness.
If you want the best performance possible from your truck (and any modifications), and you are willing to spend the time / money for dyno and customing tuning, then an XCal2 with a reputable programmer may be the way to go.
Custom tuned SCT hands down. No you don't need dyno tuning for that either. Trust me you can tell when your tune is right or wrong. SCT has so many options that the Edge can do including full control of the transmission.

I agree.. SCT is a great tune. XCal2 is simple & effective.
From what I have seen on the SCT website. The user adjustable features of the XCAL2 are basically the same as the Edge. And from what I have read, than "canned" Edge tunning beats the "canned" XCAL2 tuning.
An XCAL2 Dealer with Tuning Software or someone with the Pro-Racer tuning software would have total control over the XCAL2 tuner which is not available for the Edge. If your planning on mods or really know what your doing with tuning, then an XCAL2 may be the way to go.
For a stock vehicle, I believe the Edge is hard to beat.
I think you will really like your Platinum with A2. Its a really great system, and it looks great to boot! The A2 is a beautifull piece, there really is no other display today that compares, and the camera coming out soon will be icing on an already fine tasting cake! Great to talk with you Snake, let us all know how it works out!

The "canned" software is so-so.. but when you buy an XCal2 from a good tuner, they can customize the tune to your specific needs. I had the Pro-Racer Package with my 4.6 Mustang.. go to www.modulardepot.comwww.xxtuning.com or any GOOD tuner and you will benefit. Get the truck on the dyno and then a "close" tune will be perfect. The Pro-Racer Package can be learned easily and will give you control over every important parameter.
I have a bone stock F-150 (for now) and the Xcal2 tune gave me more power, and it even idles better.

I completely disagree. Different strokes for different folks but I think that the SCT is hands down a better product. Now if you are after doo-dads like GPS and backup camera's then sure the A2 is the ticket but if you are about functionality then the SCT is the ticket. You just call on of the big SCT "Diesel" shops and tell them what you want to do with your tunes and let them take care of the rest.
Can you turn off the EGR with Edge? What about giving you back aggressive tow/haul or PI? Can it do custom shift points or TC lockup in certain gears or speeds? These are honest questions for you Edge guru's. I know SCT can.
When you take the Xcal2 to the shop for a change, is it free, or do they charge you every time you want something different?
Also, is it change on the fly while going down the road?
That depends on the shop that you purchase your SCT from. My tuner gives you free updates and tweeks but I know of others like Innovative that do charge.
No SCT is not shift on the fly. I can control it with my right foot most of the time. If I do need to change tunes then it only takes a couple minutes to change.
