They store information about a website that you have visited on your computer. Cookies are used to keep you logged into a site whenever you visit it. They are activated whenever you visit a website that has placed a cookie on your computer.
They are used to "track" where you've been and what you've been looking at. I run with settings that say "Aske me before accepting cookies", so each time a website wants to set a cookie, I can accept or decline. Some sites where you are going to place an order insist that cookies be enabled, as that's where they store the info as the order is built up. There is an option in most browsers to review and/or delete cookies. I delete them preiodically as a matter of course. I also empty the internet "cache" periodically.
i'm not an comp wiz, but I been wondering how to get to the cache in the computer to clean them up. It would help speed it up again. I clean my cookies and disc clean regularly, but do not know how to get to cache to clean up.
Depending on the browser, there is usually, under tools or options, a menu for deleting cookies and cache. Failing that, the cache is usually located in a subdirectory labled (what else) "CACHE". It's usually located in Windows/Programs/Browserxxx/cache or similar, where "Browserxxx" is the name of your browser. Sorry I can't be more specific, but look around, you should be able to find it.
