Hi, my son just bought a 90 bronco2 and i put a new 2.9 in it and it runs great . My wife drove it 30 miles then came home and my son went to drive it and it would only go in reverse. Is that tranny gone? I got a Quote for $900.00 to rebuild but its not worth it for a 2 wheel drive.I have a 5 speed that came out of my 89 ranger that i could put in it if its not too much trouble. The way I see it all I may have to do is have a driveshaft made.Has anyone done this?
Gone, probably not. You need to get it to a mechanic who will actually find out what's wrong, not just say gimme $900 and I'll drop a new one in. That five speed will work fine, but yes you'll need a new driveshaft.
