Exclamation Proof of year manufactured

Hi I'm a new member but I've got a problem registering my 1949 F1 in the uk. It's hard to get the relavent paperwork because we didn't get anything at all. The truck was imported to the uk from Zimbabwe at the beginning of the year but the person that did it only done the NOVA form and we got refused a new registration document because of the lack of proof of year. We need help proving when our ford was made and if anyone can help I would be very grateful. The s/n is DF83FH49-41496 this was on a plaque in the middle of the firewall and the engine number is 9J-9771-F.
If someone can please post the details here on line we have been told that this will suffice as you are the official ford people.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give, Mark.

Your numbers indicate a 1950 F1 with a 6 cylinder engine, built in Atlanta, GA, on the 19th of September. The pictures you posted in the 'let's see your truck now' thread show the flat side box, and that seems correct for a late '50. Which transmission do you have? The light duty 3 speed equipped trucks got a column shifter about then, too.

I have a 3 speed floor shift. Want to keep it close to what it came with but the gearing is low.

Thanks for sharing, and yes the thread is still active or at least monitored.
That is a very early 49 F6 produced in St Paul assembly plant.... 14th place in the data!
Differential is one of two: 2 speed with ratio either 5.83/8.11 or even slower 6.33/8.81
If there is a stamping on the firewall it would tell us a bit more. This would look like a number, SP another number and letter and probably 3 or 4 more numbers - something like: 3SP12B2345
If you find that post it and we can fill in more details.
Tim

Cool. Ill have to try and get back there and check more for that. Question, would tire chains have been a factory item? I yanked two chains quite ****ing long and not very wide and I was thinking its for that logically but beings my gpa has owned it since before my mom was born it may have been for a smaller tractor.

St paul makes sense, my f150 and old LTD came from there and I think my 53 customline prob did too. Its from a northern wisconsin county truck its whole living life, close to minnesota. makes sense being 14th but sweet

That bed is also not stock option right, it would have been a cab and chassis most likely?

Unless you find a tag on the bed that is Ford script, it is probably after market so it would likely have been cab and chassis.

Chains are available and are long and heavy. I have 2 sets that fit the 8.25x20 tires for my F6 and F4 plow trucks. They are similar in size to tractor chains.
I'll try to get a picture that shows the difference between pickup chains and big truck chains. I'm sure your grandpa used chains in n Wisconsin like we do in MT.

Im sure the county did too, for whatever the truck did. im guessing it maybe had a large dump bed but the dump bed went on the next truck when they replaced it

They're dualie chains so they measure approx 26"wide by 10' long with a third chain down the middle. Tractor tire chains wouldn't have that. The picture you have looks like truck chains.
Can't get a shot of pickup chains - think my grandson has mine.
