As long as its old its bold, and modded its fine with me. I could care less what motor you have in it, as long as your doing your thang'. I prefer fords in fords, chevys in chevys, and mopars in mopars, but thats my preference. I run around w/chevy guys and I'm a true-blue ford blue oval guy, but I help the others that are "less fortunate", that don't know the better motors, lol, just kiddin, anything is cool if its yours and you're tryin.
Easy now, EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinions as well as the right to build their truck the way they see fit without being criticized by anyone who does not share their exact vision. That's the whole root of customizing and hot rodding! There is plenty of room for all of us on here and we can all learn something from each other. If it looks like a duck, it is a duck no matter what kind of feed it's powered by.
400 Ford (402 actual) bored .040 making it a 410, Ford SVO cam, roller rockers, Weiand intake, Edelbrock carb, Sanderson headers, forged pistons.... C6 tranny, extra clutches, stage-2 shift kit, manual/automatic valve body......Currie prepped and narrowed 9 inch rear.... Hey, the engine is only as good as its running gear
It might be dead soon if we get into the "Ford vs. the Competition" thing. There's a whole FTE forum for that discussion, and it's not really appropriate here.
351W/C6 in my panel; I won't get into my previous ad nauseum posts ref: Comparing a Chevy in a Ford to putting a baboon's heart into a human, because I don't want George to lock the thread.
Hey, Gman, How do you like your 351w? I'm still milling over what engine to run in my 54 f100. I'm mostly decided on the windsor but I keep wondering if I will regret not going for the cleveland....
Over in the small block forum especially, there are numerous threads comparing these engines at great length. The general concensus seems to be that the 302/351W are more mean't for torque whereas the 351C is more meant for higher revs and horsepower. Unless you're planning on drag racing your truck, then torque is more use to you than HP, so the windsor is considered the better choice. If you have access to a 351W, then it is generally the better choice versus the 302, for it's higher torque (and power) potential versus the 302. That is to say, sure you can get power out of the 302, but with a 351W, you're already starting with about 15% more cubic inches and "there's no replacement for displacement".
If you're interested in the HP and torque specs for the various years of 351Ws, send an email to the_ferguson @ sympatico.ca (remove the spaces) and I'll send you something I put together from various sources when I was trying to determine which year to use....
