OK folks, answer the poll question and move on. We have to stay away from the Brand X versus Brand Y discussions or I'll end up having to lock the thread.
George,
You're right. I had a temporary slip in judgement that I'm going to blame on rectal-cranial inversion.
I made my apology and I'm going to leave this thread alone.
Thank you, that is all I was after. I think I entered a little over zealous. I am a For truck enthusiast, I am a purist, depending on the truck. The 53 Ford F-750 fire truck i just bought, will be a concours quality rig when finished, a purists truck, my 53 F-800 is an enthusiasts truck, it is not original, but it is built from different Fords, and different eras of Ford's. The description of your truck tells me that you could be defined as a classic car/truck enthusiast, I say classic, because you appear to incorporate what ever works in what ever brand you have, as long as it still resembles a classic car or truck. My guess is that I approached the starting of this debate on the abrupt side, not really giving room to allow a classic car/truck enthusiast to be classified as a specific make/model enthusiast, that is something that we can all blame my father for. He is probably the leading '53-'56 Ford truck, and '60-'66 Ford Falcon enthusiast on the face of the whole flippin planet. By the way, yes I am stubborn.
I am relatively new around here. BUT....I am a long standing member of one other auto enthusiest forum besides this one. It escapes me as to why anyone would question anothers passion for their own project and label them as they see fit. I find it to be distastefull as well as disrespectfull to a fellow member. I guess I am one of the ones that just does'nt get it...
Bobby...I was unaware that you were sportin' a 500ci caddy eng. in your truck...I like it...Dead cool in my opinion. That is if I have the right to have an opinion that does not hinge on what someone else may or may not think to be proper...heh...
Had a 292 in my '55 but it died...now I have a '95 LT1 350 but it's all Ford on the outside. For what it's worth, my '05 Explorer, '89 F-250, and '92 Aerostar van are all Ford powered.Interesting poll.
uh panel project is on hold right now, found more rust then i wanted to deal with in the roof/sides so now i think i will look for a 56 panel that is pretty much done......anyone want to buy a 56 panel with a gm clip and 350 chevy cheap?
Bobby,
I fixed up on old Chevy's for a while and now I've got a couple of old Fords that I mess with. I never used anything but a chevy engine in my chevy, and I wouldn't dream of putting anything in my fords but a ford. My 73 swb F100 has a 460 and c6. My 55 is currently with out any engine or transmision. I like several of the ford engines and I've been torn between the 300, 351W, 390, and 460. Needless to say this thread is very interesting. I definately plan on fuel injection and over drive so that pretty much rules out the FE.....back to the point I was trying to make....in spite of using the same manufacturers engine, transmsion, and body for my personal projects and also being realy turned off to the same old classic Ford with a 350/ 350 combo....That 500 Caddy transplant is super cool! I wouldn't personally try it my self, but it is a very unique idea and should be a lot of fun to drive as well as get lots of double takes at shows. Also, for what it's worth to you, 49 has always been my favorite. I was actualy looking for a 49 or at least a 48 to a 52 when I found my 55. Please keep the pictures of your build coming. I will definately be watching for the pictures.

From what I have heard the bellhousing pattern is different on the windsor verses the cleveland. With the various types of cams available and the large valved small chamber heads you can produce some good horsepower without using aluminum heads.
As for rebuilding the 360 over doing the 410 I will go the extra cubes because it will be used for towing a camper and boat. Am also planning to install some type of overdrive and change rear end gears to up the mileage when not towing. A little thought has been put into the whole program.
Gear Up
Hey Gear Up a true 351C Block made from 70-74 shares the bellhousing with the Windsor blocks. My first truck a 53' had a 72' model 351C with an AOD out of a 89 Cougar. My current 55' runs a 302 EFI and AOD. The only GM part on my truck is the Chevy Van gas tank.
240/ 300/ 260/ 289/ 302/ 351W/ 351C One bell housing patern. The top of the bell housing is flat with the top 2 holes between 4 and 5 inches apart.
351M/ 400/ 429/ 460 Another bell housing patern. The top of the bell housing is flat but the top 2 holes are roughly 6 to 7 inches apart.
352/ 360/ 390/ 406/ 410/ 427/ 428 Have a third bell housing. This bell housing is not flat on top, it is more round and resembles a chevy bell housing.
I don't have enough experience in 48 to 56 model trucks to know what will fit where as of yet. I do know from 65 to 79 there are 3 different sets of motor towers.
The first set of towers fits both of the inline 6's from 65 to 79 which include the 240 and 300. That same set fits any FE block such as 360/ 390/ 428 etc. On this set the driver's side stand is almost twice as tall as the passenger side.
The second set fits 289/ 302/ 351W/ 351C/ 351M/ and 400. On this set both sides are almost the same height.
The third set that fits 429 and 460 are made completely different from the first 2. The first 2 are set up to where a stud from the motor mount sits down in to the top of the motor stand. On the 429/460 stand there are 2 holes in the stand and the motor mount goes on each side of the stand with a big bolt going all the way through the motor mount and motor stand.
