The new explorer has 292 horsepower with the v8. The v6 was re-designed with lower emissions but is still only 210 horsepower. Im confused to why ford did not make a new engine as the base model Would you rather have an Explorer or Trailblazer.
i think i would have to go for the Chev. The inline six thats the base engine is sweet. 275hp and 275lb ft. And the thing gets 17mpg in town and 20 on the highway or right around that.
Explorer. Independent rear suspension plus a greater towing capacity. The Trailblazer has a "cheap" interior and the styling is dated. The only thing the GMT365 platform (Trailblazer,Envoy,Rainier,Saab) has going for it is the Displacement on Demand V8 that's available in the Envoy Denali, but now you're talking $40k, and that opens up other options.
if your looking for a better engine than the 4.2 I-6 the trailblazers can get the 5.3 v-8 and from what i understand they scream whith that engine and your still looking at high teens for fuel millage.
I would take the Trailblazer the I6 has 290hp now and the 5.3 has 320hp and the SS has 395hp. Ford really needs a new v6 the 4.0 is just as outdated as the 4.3 was.
it really does. We just traded my wife's 02 TrailBlazer 2wd in. The I6 is a great motor. I was REALLY impressed w/ the power, but like typical Chevys, the power was in the upper rpms. The interior was my biggest gripe, as previously mentioned it looked very cheap.
I would rather have the Ford. For one, because it's a Ford. And two, the trailblazer is ugly. Looks like a car with a high roofline. The explorer has stayed true to it's truck roots, like the old s-10 Blazer did.
Oh yeah, that 4.2L I6 DOES have the front diff jammed into the oilpan somehow. On the 2wd versions, the holes are capped off. But why buy an SUV that is 2wd, in my opinion...4wd frame and suspension, but no 4wd front end? Whatever.
That would be the 1st and only reason I need to disqualify the TB clones from consideration. Well, those piston-slapper, oil drinking gasser v8s are an optional reason to do so....then again, Saab and Buick have their versions, too. GM can NOT be rewarded for making THAT many versions of one vehicle. I'm surprised they haven't just forcefully piled on yet and rebadged one for Jeep, Mazda, and Lincoln by now, for pete's sake.
As for the Exploder, it looks enough like an Expedition (and got bloated enough) to just go and buy the Expgy instead.
My friend works at a chevy dealership and him and his mother own traiblaizers. BOTH of them have been in the shop at least ten times since new. My friend says they suck. I like Chevy trucks to a point. I am a diehard ford man though. I wouldnt say something bad about a vehicle unless I had some sort of proof. He says they are in the shop all the time for recalls and lots of other stuff. Just an opinion. I think they are nice looking trucks though.
