One off the reasons the Explorer has been the best selling SUV in its class is the relaiblity an dependability off them. People drive thousands off mostly troubefree miles. Ive seen several old explorers like 1992 an 1993 models with lots an lots off miles an people are still driving them. The explorer will do anything a traiblazer will do.
Or even burst into flames when just sitting there :-)
Curious, how many vehicles has this happened too?
My point is - we don't want to turn this into a typical recall "slog-fest". While recalls are never good, they rarely reflect the quality and the standard of the vehicle as a whole.

True. My 2001 Escape had 5 recalls before I took delivery and two since. At 93,000 miles, I've had a problem with one little switch and nothing else. One of the best vehicles I have ever owned.
I hadn't heard of any Trailblazers, only Bonnevilles. A lady about 45 minutes north of me cam home and parked her Bonny in the garage and next thing she knows the garage is on fire. It eventually destroyed the garage and the house. Hadn't heard of any reclls on it though, GM normally waits until the government makes them do it.
The TB electrical problems are minor things not major things like fire I said tail lights and computer being upgraded I have never heard of a TB catching fire. My boss had one for a rental and I got to beat the hell out of it I really liked it but wouldn't buy one I hate 4 doors If they made a 2dr version I would already own one.

DMAX is making a sly tongue in cheek comment reffering to the recall on a large Fords recently...
Come to think of it, I don't the Explorer was included in it?

The recent "flaming" Ford recall is not so much a Ford issue as a Texas Instruments issue, the maker of the master cylinder sensor in question. But Ford did do the recall.
From the looks of it, it's slowing down for the Trailblazer anyway. OKC Assembly is shutting down in "early 2006". They make the stretched version. Moraine Assembly is scaling back to two shifts; they make the regular version.
I have owned my Trailblazer since 2003 and it has truly been the best vehicle I have owned. I have not had even one issue with it (other than the tail light recall) and it has close to 100,000 miles on it. I run it hard and it still runs like the day I drove it off the lot. That inline is truly a great engine!
After leasing a GMC Envoy for three years(didn't think the vehicle would even last that long). We couldn't wait to turn it in. Many recalls, poor handling, no interior room, especially with Onstar stuffed under the seats.
Bought a Ford Explorer and couldn't be happier.
I'm a Ford truck, Harley and Jeep man. I have an '04 F150 FX4 and an '04 Rubicon. However, I did have a '00 Bravada up until about Feb '04 and my wife has an '03 Trail Blazer. We bought it new in Jul '03. My Jeep and her TB both have inline 6's. Although mine is a 4.0 and hers is a 4.2. She LOVED the interior of my Bravada and I was quite fond of it myself, that's why she went for the TB over a Explorer. We always take her TB on vacations or whereever we go as a family. My son can't ride on the Harley Ultra, we can't all hardly fit in the Jeep and my FX4 takes $20 of gas to get out of the driveway. We haven't had the first problem out of that TB. It'll also leave all my vehicles except the Harley in the dust.
I wouldn't work out of a Chevy, but I do kinda prefer their interior, stereo and the smooth ride. Just my humble opinion.
Trailbazer vs. Explorer. Hmm, well, having driven both it depends upon what you want. An uhgly minivan with optional V-8 and car-like handling, Or, an actual truck?! Explorer all the way, our famliy has Fords for a reason.
OK - so I just got the Trailblazer out of the shop again. It's a 2004 with only 15k miles on it. This time it was an oxygen sensor. The last time, it was an IP Cluster. I just added a roof deflector hoping it would cut down on some of the wind noise when the moonroof is open, but it hasn't helped much. My husband can't where the seatbelts. Gas mileage was between 11-13. Need I say more? It's starting to lose some of the nice ride....time will tell. Moving to FL in July...can't wait to see what gas mileage I get then. 16 mpg? lolol I'll be comparing it to our 95 Explorer that will go down with us at the same time!
