so when it rains i get this puddle of water by the drivers side door. Appears to be coming from the rubber seal around the windshield, at the bottom left hand corner. Any way to fix this? Need a whole new rubber seal?
You can try to do what the windshield guys do. They use something I think is called butyl. I don't know where you'd get the caulking tubes but they just caulk it in there. I bought a new windshield a few years back and when it leaked all they did was caulk that stuff in there until they sealed out the leak. Took them 3 tries.
4Cammer is right. I replaced my windshield with one from a salvage yard. The seal was better than the one in mine so I used it. But to be honest, doing that windshield was a b**ch. I cracked the upper corner on the passenger side.
I had the same problem with my truck. I bought a replacement seal from JC Whitney and it seems to be working great. Swapping in the new seal really was a pain though.
One thing about the Windshield and leaks... This is what the death of my '70 F-100 was... the previous owner had a leaky windshield and so he decided to just use silicon to prevent the water from getting inside the cab... well it did remain outside the cab but it remained in the groove of the rubber seal, so it rotted the whole upper area of my Cab from the inside out...
So if you do wind up pulling your windshield I would recommend cleaning down the entire area and check for any signs of rust.
silicone isnt very good about holding water out of anything. thats why they use butyl caulking on your house downspouts. It is much stickier that silicone. You can buy a small tube of windshield caulk, but I dont know what's in it. A new rubber is usually the ticket. use some silicone spray or WD 40 when you install rubber and glass. you know the rope trick right?
