Windshield was removed when I bought the truck. I've put the windshield with rubber in to see how it fits. I cannot see what function the retaining tabs perform. They will cause a water leak where they are right now, holding the rubber out from making a good seal.
Do they need to be bent up or down?
Any chance anyone could post a photo of there 48 windshield installed? The windshield that came with th truck seems to be a bit small at left and right bottom edges? Reciepts indicate he had it custom cut.
I cut the tabs off. They are a huge PIA to try to work around and IMO they are not needed.
As for w/shield, you want a uniform fit all around or it may leak.....
I agree 150% with Tinman. I broke an original Ford script window while removing it because I forgot about those damn tabs. Ever since I cut them off. They do absolutely nothing to hold the window. To back me up read the shop manual on how to install a windshield with the stainless trim. It says to cut the tabs off if installing the stainless trim. The stainless trim does absolutely nothing to hold the windshield in.
Cut them off, down with the tabs, live tab free!!!
