My 48 F1 is painted and i'm ready to install the windshield and back glass.I'm not sure if I need to use any sealer on the rubber seals to keep out any water. I tried the search but did'nt have much luck.
I didn't use any and my windows are water tight. Alot depends on who makes your seals, the quality and softness of the rubber. The sealant makes the installation a very slimy job. I would avoid it if I could.
Do you have a Shop Manual or know the procedure for the installation? It's not hard but very definately a two person job. You'll need some Dawn Dish soap and a large piece of "string" - like a piece of Parachute cord.
Here is a few links to other discussions we've had about the installation and whether or not to use sealant:
no, you don't need it. use windex or palmolive, dawn, etc... for a w/strip lube to make it go easier. if you do it dry you are more apt to tear or scar the w/strip. DO NOT use spray silicone. i have replaced many windshields that other glass shops have used silicone to help ease the install. it does make it go real easy but, if the body flexs, silicone WILL let it pop out! i have done thousands of windows in my life. we have always used windex. in the summer it can dry a little to fast and that's when we break out the dish soap. that's my opinion and i'm sticking to it.
