Topic has come up and there appears to be couple schools of thought; some members say no sealant is required. Looking at the Ford pickup assembly manual the diagram refers to an item number ESB-M4G32-A which is described as a black sealant.
Had new windshield and the stainless trim installed by shop several years ago and they used a sealant.
I didn't use sealant on my front windshield, but can't recommend either way since it's not been outside yet. I can say it would have been a BIG MESS of everything to use sealant while trying to get the rubber & trim around the windshield.
If I have any issues, I'll use flowable silicon in the trouble spots.
