How do I send a BIG file?

I want to send a folder to a friend of mine... It has about 20GB worth of files in it.. I tried using AOL's messenger... It works for a while but it stops sometomes and then I have to start all over. Yahoo messenger won't let me send a directory, only individual files..
Does anyone know of an efficient way to send something that big without having to store it on discs and drive to this person's house? Any help here would be appreciated....

Jason

Compress it and send it over messenger or e-mail.

The only bad part is, I'm not quite sure how to compress a massive file like that to something more manegable.

well... I tried compressing the folder's contents with WinRar.. It turned 20GB into 18.6GB.. Didn't exactly work as well as I thought it would... It's a folder with a bunch of sub-folders totalling about 7,000 files... I guess I could break it up into smaller groups and e-mail it... The only problem is that most e-mail clients limit the size of an e-mail to 10mb... That would take me quite a while to do...

Use gmail, it's invite only, and I can get you one of those, I have a bunch, right now the storage capacity is 2585 megabytes. You can send a huge file and once he moves it to a different file on his computer, you can send the next one. Let me know through email or pm if you want an account.

The best way is to burn the subfolders to CD's and send them thru the mail. You could also find an FTP server but it will take hours if not days to transfer the files. It would take many days to move it thru Gmail accounts even tho I hear some have 1GB of storage.

I think My best bet is going to be storing it all on discs and sending it through regular mail. . . I can store it on double layer dvd discs (a little over 8GB each) or regular dvd discs(4.7GB)... Any way I try to send it online, it has to be uploaded to eith the mail client or an ftp server which would take quite a while... I can stuff it on discs in about an hour so I think that's the way I'm gonna go unless someone has a better suggestion..

Thanks for the help guys!!

In WinRar compress the files to span multiple archives of say 15,000,000 bytes; from 20GB that will give you about 1300 files. Both of you download mIRC from here and use DCC so your friend can download the files from you. It's an easy program to use and the help file is very 'help'ful.

MIRC will also let you resume a large file if you're intent on sending one big file but that does not guarantee that there will not be errors in the large file. Best to send many small files and re-send one 15MB file than the whole 20 GB again.

Might just be easier to spend 30 bucks on a dvd burner and mail him the discs.

Not the cheapest way, but you could buy an USB external/portable hard disk, copy your files to it and send the disk.

My thoughts exactly.
I saw a WD 80 gig HDD for $50 this week at a local shop. 160 gig for a C note.
