How do I increase the performance?

Can anyone tell me some ways to increase the performance off my truck? I have a 93' f250 with a 302. It runs fine does not really burn oil and has no knocks or ticks. It does have high miles and is geared quite high. I would just like a little more performance from the stock motor without having to rebuild it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Swap it out for a 351.

There really isn't a whole lot you can do to *substantially* increase the power of a speed density 302. As soon as you start making serious performance mods, you run into the limitations of the stock computer.

Dang, a 302 in an F-250?

The Speed Density system does limit the mods you can do. Exhaust and intake mods are acceptable and yield some noticeable perfromance.

First things first, make sure it's running properly, I.E. tuneup with new fuel filter, autolite plugs, new cap/rotor/wires, check timing and advance it to 12*BTDC, 180 degree T-stat, K&N Drop in filter, clean the IAC, and make sure all your fluids are good to go.

As said above, exhaust mods are good starting points also.

What I would personally recommend on a truck 302 would be lower gears. A 351 can handle 3.55's in overdrive, but the lil' 302 don't have the grunt. 3.73's or 4.10's are in order with that motor.

I agree with everything but the t-stat. ECT mode will not go into "normal" until 190* is obtained. The PCM will stay in open loop fuel until then, and continue to wash the cylinder walls with fuel, and that isn't healthy for any motor.

There are MANY things you can do with speed density but, at a certain point, you will need some type of aftermarket tuning. Your cam selection is the only thing that will be limited with speed density.

A 180 degree t-stat causes a Ford, especially a 302 with the small radiator, to run at about 190-195 degrees. Ford wanted the motor to run about 205-215 for cleaner burning, hence the 192 degree T-stat.

Ask ANYBODY with a Mustang, they run a 180 without issues.

We are NOT dealing with a Mustang PCM....I have datalogged this on two different trucks to verify this. There are several others I know that have noticed the same thing as well when they were dataloging.
