I don't know about that, Polarbear. There was no breakdown of law & order in New York after the 911 attack. That quarter square mile in the middle of the city was surounded by law & order. And food & shelter & counciling groups & everything else. But when it does break down, whether in N.O. or L.A., chaos reins. Even Cub Scouts know - be prepared!

I went through two devastating earthquakes in So Cal...no chaos, folks helped each other get through it. We almost had similiar floods in Portland 10 years ago. The city beefed up the walls they could and got everyone to high ground until it was over. On our side of the river, half the town did go under water. Same story- those of us (businesses included) that weren't flooded out filled sandbags to try to save the houses/businesses of those that were about to go under.

I'm not saying I don't subscribe to the "be prepared" thing (Asst. Scoutmaster for 8 years), but that chaos is pretty unique to NO.

Now back to the topic, I heard that nat. gas is going up 40% over in this part of the country, and 60% in the mid west.

That's going to hurt.

BTW, Save Star bucks? Why?

I like Petes Coffee.

Actually, any coffee will do, even the instant stuff.

i've tried very hard to stay out of this thing. but as long as the gloves are off let me just say this.

the looters were the poor who had no money and no car and got left behind. these were people who went to get food and water because nobody was getting it to them. and like anything else, a few bad apples spoil the bunch by shooting, raping, and comitting the kind of violence that would have happened anywhere under a similar absence of law and order. and think about this. for every crime there is a victim. like the women who were raped. do they deserve to be subjected to martial law preventing them from going back to what's left of their homes and reuniting with their families?

instead of showing looters and getting people all hopped up for martial law, the media should ask why the president appointed one of his friends to run an important federal agency like FEMA that was supposed to prevent this kind of natural disaster from escalating into a complete breakdown of civil society. sure he fired the guy, but how do you know he didn't appoint any other incompetent buddies to work at homeland security?

remember this is the same lying son of a bitch that declared a war on grounds of bogus intelligence he didn't even bother to confirm, but for some mysterious reason, didn't have enough sense to cut short a photo op when he got word that someone was flying planes into government buildings. and if only to make matters worse, he then shortchanges the investigation, makes some incriminating remarks about having seen the first plane hit the tower, and has refused to talk about it ever since.

yeah federal martial law. swell idea. why even bother with elections at all?

i'll bet if this president wasn't in bed with the richest of oil companies, with millions of dollars to spend on political advertising, the 'liberal' corporate media would be a lot harder on him.

by the way i was in the united states last week and all flags were at half mast out of respect for 9/11. i respect that and hope all victims of 9/11, katrina, and the war in iraq recieve proper respect, are commemorated and not just exploited for political gain. they share my deepest sympathies.

No, that 6000 footer is the second wave. The 4000 footer is just going to soften up the place a bit first. Got waders?

At least some people are moving back into N.O. Thankfully there were not as many deaths as they thought there would be so that is good news. I hope people will be able to get back to living again. You can't crush the human spirit!

It's a good thing we can all laugh at a time of calamity other wise we would all go crazy.
