Gas Wars

This is a copy of an Email I just got from a friend. I'm not usually an activist or a joiner myself. But this sounds like an idea whose time has come.
So please read ALL of it and see what you think. If you agree with it just do as the Email instructs. Will it work? I don't know, but it's worth a try.

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon this summer and it might go higher! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap.
Me too! It is currently $3.40 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75,
we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.
The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.
If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.
Keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on.
By the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE...HUNDRED MILLION...PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million when all you have to do is send this to 10 people.
Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

I've seen this a million times, and can't even imagine it will stay posted for too long, but it's kind of silly. When you think about it, cars, trucks, trains, boats and airplanes use oil-based fuels, and then there's lubrication, plastics, styrenes, etc. The overall impact of cars (small % of overall consumption) and the few people who actually follow through with the email (it's been around the world a million times by now) won't even be a blip on the radar. Besides, how many people actively seek a certain brand of gas? For the most part, just about everyone will stop whenever they get the chance and see a gas station, paying no mind to the brand.

Seems to me. Even if you pulled it off and no one patronized that particular oil company. All they would have to do is lower their prices by 5 0r 6 cents and everyone would be back. two days later, back up to where everyone else is.
If your lucky you saved enough for a small cup of coffee.

If you still had unions you could organize a general strike. Don't drive, don't go to work, don't buy anything for a couple of days. Force the government to take Illegal "immigration", gas prices and other grievances seriously.

Park your rigs in front of the refinery and don't let any gas out. Cut the nations oil consumption in half so the gas in the refineries has nowhere to go. The speculators will start ****ting their pants trying to dump all the oil they bought at $65/barrel to sell at $75 come labour day.

It would never work. You could not get that many people to do it. This kind of thing has been posted before.

The thing about gas that gets me is people dont shop at all for a good price. I have seen so many times two gas stations across the street from each other and people are buying at the most expensive one. Some times as much as 20-25 cent difference. Im not talking about a name brand station and a no name. Just the other day a Phillips 66 station was $2.98 and right down the street maybe two blocks was a Conoco that was $2.75. I waited in line at the Phillips and then realized the price and drove down the street and bought at the Conoco with NO LINE. People were waiting in line to pay 23 CENTS MORE PER GALLON. What is wrong with people?

The concept is dumb in IMO.

The only real way to get prices down and stay down is doing it my way.

But it is Impossible to organize 150 million people in USA & 15 Million people in Canada to discipline themselves to stop buying gasoline for 3 months and tell the oil companies and GOVERNMENT they will not buy any fuel until the price goes back to a reasonable amount and stays there until I say they can raise it

Gasoline has a shelf life of 28 days. Make that fuel stay in the ground and watch the sale prices start a couple days later.
