I usually try to drink a lot of water when I drink and before I go to bed if I have had a lot to drink. For severe cases, and if you can get your hands on some, I have heard that oxygen works wonders. If you want to benefit from getting more oxygen but don't have a source for the bottled kind, get out of bed and do something aerobic. It may be the last thing you want to do, but I have had it forced on me and it works pretty well.
>3. i would stick with
>advil or some sort of
>iboeprofen instead of aspirin
My best friend swears by 2 Advil before bed. But, my kidney doctor thinks the next generation of kidney failure patients will be Advil/Iboeprofen users. So, I'd lay off the Advil especially after drinking.
Bob, you do have a point there. I agree to an extent. I feel as though there is more of a drinking with moderation issue here. The main thing is either to know how much your body can handle or to know what to do to prevent the uglyness of the following morning. Setting yourself in a position to get plenty of sleep after the party is a primary motion also.
I know that when I am active, I can drink all day and not have a problem at night or the next morning. For example, BBQ's with vollyball or baseball. Even fishing or wrenching on the equipement, no problem. Now, going out at night to a bar, having shots and plenty of beer and blowing off dinner. NOT! No way. I will not even deal with that. Just my thoughts. Jake.
Like was already mentioned, alcohol really dehydrates you. Even with beer, you'll pee more liquid than you drink, which is how you dehydrate. When you dehydrate, since the cushion between your brain and your skull is mainly liquid, you have less cushion, and your head just plain hurts. To combat this you need to drink/eat things which do the opposite - make you retain water. Salt is great for water retention. At school, after a night of hard drinking I have a package of one of those Ramen noodle things, which is so salty it works perfectly. Plus it's a soup so you get water with it. Just drinking water before bed never did a damn thing for me, but gatorade would work better because it's full of electrolytes, which you lose every time you go to the bathroom. The problem is to cure a hangover you must prevent it, which means the night before, because once you have one it usually takes a while for it to clear up.
Well, whenever I had a bit too much to drink, I used to drink a few big glasses of water and a few advil before I went to bed. That usually would help in the mornings. Sometimes it worked great! Sometimes it only helped a little.
If I woke up with a pretty bad hangover I would start off by eating saltines and drinking water... that would seem to speed up "recovery" from a hangover. It might still take a few hours to be able to function... and even more to feel 100%, but it sure beats wasting the day away. One other thing... if your gonna drink... don't drive (sorry... the firefighter in me had to say that!)
Wasting the day away only prolongs the hangover. You have to get up and move around. I know it can be tough but it is one of the key elements to burning it off.
Of course, I agree with James on the drinking and driving part. Another thing to remember is that driving on a hangover the next day can be just as dangerous.
You're getting hangovers ? You must be some kind of lightwieght. I never had hangovers, but wonder if they might have helped me. I got drunk, got into fights, got my butt kicked, and woke up in jail. But I always felt fine. Maybe some hangovers would have helped me see the error of my youthful ways a lot sooner. If you tell yourself you won't do it again and you do it anyway, you have a problem- get some help. I quit drinking and don't wake up in jail anymore and don't get into fights anymore either. Life is easier with AAs help. DF
i always eat bread and water before bed, and that should stop the puking. when ya get up i usually get a donught and a coffee and im all good for the day. usually works for me. good luck
