Last Saturday morning, A good friend and myself met with another friend for a day of rabbit hunting. While they where getting the hounds ready, I put the morning MacDonald's wrappers in the bag, then in the bed of my buddies truck ( a prank we do to each other, along with others ) Went out for a good day of rabbit hunting, We all met back at the trucks, and said we would do it again next Saturday. This is where it goes down hill.
Sunday morning i get a phone call from him, DID YOU GUYS PUT THE MACDONALDS BAG IN MY TRUCK!!! I said why ?
Because this morning while going to church, the bag blew out of the bed in front of a Michigan State Police, He pulled me over and gave me a $500.00 ticket for littering.
Knowing i was at fault, and seeing the ticket, I dug deep and paid the fine.
I never thought i would pay $500.00 for two MacDonald's breakfast.
Tomorrow morning I'll put the MacDonald's bag in the cab.
I always put trash in my bed, and my friends think they have the right to do it as well, but they always put paper and styrofoam cups and things that will blow out. Needless to say I always make them take it out.
what's so funny about that prank? I throw trash in the back of buddies trucks all the time, even if they did care not like they'd notice. Isn't that what the bed if for when you're not using it to haul stuff?

I live in Riverview just north of Monroe. Maybe the cop should spend his time pulling the guys over that threw all that junk out on 75 just north of my house. I saw a toddler bed, couch, end table, and countless bags of stuff in the median wall. Couldn't have been 30 miles north of you.
I'm not sure about Michigan Higway Patrol, but back in Tennessee, if you lost something on accident, and offered to go back and get it, they usually let you go.
Sorry about the fine.
I've got a story myself about MHP.
My wife was pulled over, didn't have the insurance card in the truck. So the cop said to bring the copy of the insurance card to the police station, and he'd let her off. Well, we did that. So about a month later, she gets a letter in the mail, saying her license is suspended because she didn't show proof of insurance, and owes 250 bucks. She called for a month trying to talk to someone about this. Finally, she talked to the court clerk, who said the officer was wrong, and she had to show the court clerk proof. We've got the reciept from Riverview PD from all of this. It didn't do any good. So friday when I get paid, i've got to pay 250 bucks for a BS charge to get her license out of suspension.
Just as soon as I put my first full year in a T-mobile, I'm applying for a position in Nashville or Memphis, whichever comes up first. Also thinking about Texas or Georgia.
Too late now, but in this situation I would consider fighting the charge - there was no intent to litter, it blew out. Some places have regs agains not having cargo fully secured, probably a much lower fine, and that wasn't the charge anyway so there's a fair chance of walking away losing only a 1/2 day of work maybe. Worst case you still pay the $500.
I agree with Biker'. Unintentional commission of a crime justifies reduction or elimination of the penalty. Littering is a crime that can be easily corrected. It ain't murder, or poaching.
