Does anyone know a good cure for a hangover? Last weekend my friends and I went camping. Needless to say, we drank a lot! (hard liquor) I ended up sleeping in the cab of my truck. When I woke up I got out of my truck as fast as I could because I was going to puke! I stubbed my toe on a rock and I think it's broken. I am not sure, but it hurts! I didn't puke, but I felt like I was going to die. And I wanted to die! I had to drive out of the mountains like that. The two buddies I had with me were in another truck and one of them puked all the way out of the mountains. He had it bad! I have done this before and after each time I say I will never do it again. But I always do. Now I don't plan on doing it for a while, but I'd still like to know any ideas on how to make the recovery process a little easier. I drink water before going to bed, but it's not working. I know I drank way to much, but I'd like to know if there is a cure of some sorts? Or anything that might help?
The key is to eat something before you go to sleep! This has always proven itself to me from time to time. Also, take an asprin before you go to bed. It's not good to take medication after a night of drinking but an asprin will help you out for the next morning. I would not do this on a regular basis. That hard stuff is nasty. I myself stick to beer.
I feel your pain brother. I must agree that asprin does help. I found from some very rough nights that orange juice in the morning helps. But I also found that "Hair of the dog" helps. Take a shot of whatever you drank the night before. It will be the worse taste you ever had, but it works for me. Although I stay away from the hard stuff as well.
Good luck & remember "Don't operate heavy machinery while drunk"

My job requires me to travel and entertain customers every week . At one point in my life I had a real problem with the booze . I have now found the best thing to do is don't do it . It's not worth feeling bad later .My body just can't handle it .

As we get older, we get wiser. I like my beer but not in the amounts that I used to drink 10-15 years ago. You can deal with a hangover during the post-school years no problem. Now days, just thinking about having one kinda hurts. I like a few beers after work but as soon as I eat dinner,(dinner is around 6:30, not late), I have no room left to put anymore away. Weekend BBQ's are the best for beer. By the time the sun goes down, I will have had my fill. Plus, you have plenty of time to sleep before the next morn. Lol.
Just for laughs: Don't drink and drive, you might spill your drink!
A hangover is caused from de-hydration. Back in the days, our Corpsman could give us an IV to hurry things up if things were real bad. Drinking water takes a long time, and coffee makes it worse. I think the Gatorade idea may have merit, but I've never tried it.
I think Rocky hit the nail on the head--dehydration. First, avoid the hard stuff. Second, to avoid dehydration alternate between a 12 oz beer and 12 oz of water. Back in my drinkin days I tried this once and it worked great--also maintained my balance all night. Third, start out with a full stomach. And forth, why not start out with a few beers and then switch to near bear? By that time the near bear will taste fine and you'll avoid a lot of pain.
LAST EDITED ON 17-May-01 AT 07:51 AM (EST)[p]IV deal really works. Had a buddy that was a peramedic. Gave one to a mutual friend one day after a rough night and I swear it was like 30 min's and he was as good as new. Never take asprin when drinking...can do bad things to the liver. 1 gal. jug of gatorade and a little old fashion sweat (manual labor) will burn it right off. Otherwise get alot of sleep.
Wow! IV. Never even thought about it. Dehydration is the main problem/cause of hangovers. I also agree with the asprin or any meds mixed with alcohol can cause liver probs. That's why I don't suggest doing it much, if poss, not at all. I have done the manual labor thing. Burned through several bad hangovers handeling sheetrock. Load several houses full, approx 500 sheets, and you will feel like a new man. Tired but better.
Thanks for the ideas folks. I like the idea of drinking Gatoraide or Powerade and eating a couple slices of bread before going to bed. I don't drink very often. I hate beer and I mostly drink wine. My mother makes her own wine, and it's good! Infact I am usually siping on a glass of wine while reading the threads on this site. I can't think of anything better than wine and Fords. As for the gentleman who suggested AA meetings, well thats for alcoholics. I am not an alcoholic.
