What's the "wastegate mod", and the "kwik air mod"?
The wastegate mod is simply unplugging the red line that goes to the wastegate actuator. Quicker boost build.
And the "kwik air mod" is this: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=277571
Again, it wasn't my idea so I can't take the credit, but I did post the picture.
What Is A Zoodad Mod. Never Know....... Might Need That Too
The Zoodad mod is the removal of part of the fiberglass support behind the grille. The support blocks of the opening of the air inlet tube. I'm going to post the link that I used to see how to do mine.
I went ahead and put some fine mesh over the exposed hole to keep debri out, but once you get the grille back on you'll see that about the only thing that will find its way in there is air.
Be careful when cutting the fiberglass as some dust will result. I used a drill with a 7/16" bit to make some pilot holes and then cut the support with a hacksaw-type saw.
If you want your Zoodad mod to be a little cleaner and don't mind spending a few extra bucks then you might want to check out the Predator CAI maximizer. Here's a pic of it installed without the grille on:
do you think it would have a more ram-air like effect for the 6637 filter? all the filter is doing is pulling hot air from the engine compartment, the "cold" boost tube isnt much different from the "hot" one. i was thinking of doing this mod and making a homeade shroud that keeps the engine bay air out of the shroud.
Wow, thanks for all the advice and ideas. I had no idea there was so much I could do to boost the performance on a 7.3L. It all looks pretty cheap too. I'm glad I'm finally getting a diesel. Its going to be fun getting to know everyone.
Now if Friday would just get here so I can fly to Houston to pick her up.
Well I emailed Predator asking about the CAI maximizer and asked them where to get one. What do you know..they ask me for my address and send it to me free of charge. If it doesn't work out that well then Jegs has them. http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...50&prmenbr=361 $43 bucks though
Oh and here's the company's website if you want to check it our more: http://www.predatorpower.com/ I haven't had too much experience with this company and haven't known anyone who has. But, I've seen some of their commericals during "Horsepower TV" so they must be a decent company.

I think it definitely allows more cooler air to come in.
Look at the difference between the two. This is a picture without the CAI Maximizer "Zoodad". There's just a plastic "wall" blocking the inlet tube that goes straight to the intake.
Here's with the CAI Maximizer in. See how it opens up that "wall" to allow the cool air to come in?
