Hutch mod questions

I'm gonna be doing the hutch mod soon and thought I would ask a few questions here first.

1. Are there any special tools I will need?

2. I have seen a hutch mod kit on strictly diesel. Are there any other sites that I should consider for quality/ price?

3. What noticeable difference, if any, should I notice?

Welcome to guzzle's In-tank Hutch Mod Web Page

I used this link as a guide for my supplies. I am anticipating installing it in the next couple of months. From what I understand, it helps to remove the air from the fuel system, which in turn quiets the injectors down.

Guzzle's page is the bible for this, but did up a thread on this a couple months ago that also might be helpful to you:

You need a method to spin the equivelant of a huge stuck mayonnaise lid. You also need a 5/16" and 3/8" fuel quick-disconnect tool from any auto parts store. The tool is a small flower-looking piece of plastic.

I had 1/4 tank in there and siphoned out about 10 gallons before the tank was totally empty. I used a floor jack and lumber to hold the tank in place until all the hardware was cleared. The filler/overflow snouts will be stuck to the filler/overflow hoses, so brace yourself for a battle. It's just old hose clamps holding them on, but they've homesteaded the place... like Politicians in their seats. You can reach the back vent hose above the driver-side rear tire without having to wait until the tank is down.

Hope you didn't trademark that phrase, Rich, because I'm stealing that one for daily use!

Is the fuel line only being replaced up to the pump in order to stop air seepage? Or is there additional fuel line to be replaced after the fuel pump on the way to the engine?

What noticeable difference, if any, should I notice?

I instantly noticed that the engine was considerably quieter at idle.

Also, I opened the fuel bowl drain (with a clear hose attached, engine running) before and after, and after, there were no bubbles in the fuel. Before, the fuel was laden with bubbles. The Hutch mod clearly eliminates much air entrainment in the fuel. I feel a lot better about what's going on in the tank and in all the lines, now.
