have had lifter noise since new, 96 4L, worse on cold startup but noticible most of the time, especially at idle.
finally found the solution
Mobil 1 5w30
5 oz of Valvoline Oil Treatment with moly and other antiwear adds.
5 oz of LC20 in oil.
how can the oil filter cause lifter noise if ya got very good oil pressure?
i would think your oil pressure would suffer if the oil is not getting through
the filter.
many of the Fram filters are built with only fiber glue on end caps and cheap thin filter media, glue and media break down, fibers built up in oil passages and hydralic lifters.
engine version of hair *****.
well thats good to know but are they all bad or just certain ones?
and how would you know for sure that the break down was actually from
the fram filter or a previous filter?
i would think fram would have lottsa lawsuits on their hands.

Do a search on FRAM here or on the internet, you will come up with lots of previous engineers talking about how they would cut quality control and profit was number one. Independent test show that they are junk, stick with Motorcraft/purrolator brand filters, then you don't have to worry.
ok you guys are correct. i cut open my fram oil filter off my aerostar and it was a cheep peice of crap inside. i wont be using them anymore.
they sure got good marketing though
and the outside of the can sure is pretty

I think that Tommy boy said it best, "I can S* in a box and slap a warranty on it, but it is still a box of S*."
