IP Replacement

Hey Ya'll I took my IP off and went to the Local Scrap yard and picked up another. Can I just bolt it back in place and call it good? I left the Gear installed on the Block and just removed the 3 Star type head bolts and pulled it away from the gear? Or will I have to time it somehow and How do I do that??

Thanks

The dowel will always put the gear and IP in the right timing location for installation, as long as you do not remove the timing gear cover. I hope you got a Navistar/Ford IP not for a Chebby or an international bus..............There are numerous pumps that look the same but operate either in different rotational direction or have different internal settings.........

Set the line on the IP flange and the timing gear housing top together and it should start.....

I really do not understand why you would get one from a scrap yard?????????? it could damage more than it's worth.

Well If I had $225 to buy a rebuilt one I would. and I will as soon as I can come up with the money.

Well I got fuel to all the lines but now I burned the starter up. So I guess it will be down for a bit longer

Autozone has them for $125 (with core) they are the Mitsubishi gear reduction style best out there. Never exceed 15 seconds of starter activation without a cool down of about 2-4 minutes minimum.

White smoke means a bit retarded... unless there is an air leak into the fuel system.

Loosen the three 9/16" nuts on the IP to gear cover studs, rotate the IP toward the PAX fender 1/16" or the thicknes of a dime. Tighten the three nuts and start the engine, see how it is now if the same or better....... Post back.

Well I adjusted the Timing left then right. And your right it helped. it went from running rough and being a moskito machine to gjust barly emitting a whit cloud steady. well maybe I am exajurating. but it still has a slight bluish white smoke while Ideling. Nothing I can't deal with it does run better. I think I turned the pump up too much ..... I am going to turn it down again this week.
