Ok, a buddy of mine and I attempted to replace my IP a while ago but ended up taking the timing gear off, whats it going to take to get everything back to normal? I forgot what bolts go where etc because I put the fix of due to school and work and am wondering if I just need to let a pro handle this or do it myself.
it was in my manual and thats why i did it lol thing is I had it all nice and neat in the garage and my dad took it and dumped everything on the floorboard of the truck. I'm going to call around tomorrow and see if I can get it fixed somewhere cuz I really don't have the time to do it. I have looked at ziggs page before and just got confused. Thanks PLC and long time no see!! It seems like its been forever since I have been here.
I really don't see the big deal with pulling the upper gear and cover? Am I missing something? All the gears on the front of the engine have marks to align them.

Correct, but the gear on the camshaft is below the top edge of the front cover and the timing mark is on the forward face of the gear, so seeing the marks can be very difficult. A dentist mirror would be best, thankfully I've never had to do this.
My old chilton's manual shows how its possible to remove the injector pump and lines as one assembly without removing the timing gear cover by sliding the assembly back and lifting up at the rear.
Its still a pain to do especially if some of the lines snag at the back, but it is possible.
No problem at all, I can take one off without the gear cover in 30 minutes tops. Remove front oil filler/cover, Remove nuts off back where pump mounts to gear cover, unplug wires, throttle cable etc., loosen injector lines and pick up on the pump and pull backwards removing the whole thing.
first of all there is not enough room to use anykind of a mirror
the cover is too close to the cam gear
i have however used a very polished table knife as a mirror to see the mark

You could always remove the filler tube and scribe the gear position on the cover so it re-installs at the same location.
