I have an Areoturbine muffler on my truck because of Trucks. I love that show, good detail and a definite how to. So what if they are just a 1/2 commercial. I also like Shade Tree Mechanic, now known as Two Guys Garage, very similiar to Trucks. I havent seen but a couple of 4X4 Extreme shows and I am not overly impressed but definitely better than Hod Rod or American Chopper.
In several Jeep fourms, they call Extreme 4x4, Extreme credit card bills. All those two ever do, is get/buy parts and throw them at a project. Its a good thing Jesse is easy on the eyes, cause the show would be really awful otherwise.
Anyone remember Wally Dallenbach's Garage? Really, extremely bad production to the show, but at least the projects were interested.
Or how about Weekend Mechanic?
I used to love Dial-in DIY, but there was simply too much bad tech advice given.
I agree that Boyd puts a lot of work on a few people. Then when the car is gone to the Gabe's he takes them somewhere to do something he calls nice for them. And Foose isn't the only one taking shots at Boyd, the other day on Trucks Stacy David was at the So-Cal Speed Shop and he was saying this is where you want your car done not at some shop with arguing and people not wanting to work and that have an idiot for a boss!! I thought to myself i know he didn't just say that! I like the show and I watch all the new episodes when they come on but I don't like how he pushes people. As far as Mike goes the CNC machining guy I think he brought all of what happened to him on himself by doing work for Foose at Boyd's Shop. Either way i love Overhaulin and American Hot Rod!
As for being on Overhaulin' i read in the application to be on the show that you have to pay all the taxes for the parts and the work that they do! i think that could add up really quickly! I love for him to get a hold of my 77 though!!!!!

Trucks Stacy David is just a nut, i like that show
the one thing i hate about all the shows like american hot rod and american chopper is that the time limit they have to do it is almost imposible to complete with a team of guys let alone just one. that is why i like trucks they explane how to do the thinks on the show. the other shows are just about screaming and yelling at each other to get it done. o and i think boyd lost two body guys charlie and the kid with the camo hat. now that just suck. but i would rather work for chip then boyd.
I think most of the shows are just one long commercial. They really don't show how to do something, just throw on $3 or 4 K. worth of new parts (as they smile and laugh). Boyd's show is a primer for sexual harassment and unsafe shop practices, I don't know why he hasn't been visited by the EPA, or lawsuits. The early "Shade Tree Mechanic" shows were great, but money talks.
Sexual harassment? Dianne been grabbin Dewayne's cheeks again? LOL! Some things they do on the spur of the moment may be a little unsafe, but I don't think it would be actionable. I see bits and pieces of how things are done as opposed to how to do them, which just brings up my own self esteem on the work I do. I learn more from Overhaulin, but the phone pranks are getting pretty old.
as far as "old" projects in the background, any shop that I've seen always has more than one project going on at the same time. remember, these shows have an editor, and are probably just shot over a certain time period and later edited to single out one project per show. just a thought.
Most of those cars are not daily drivers, so the owners probably store them at Boyd's between car shows and he provides storage so he can show off his work to potential customers or find new buyers for them. I'd bet that most have a price tag on them.
AX- Everything has a price tag! I've been to the Boyd Hot Rod shop and most of those cars are projects. Some that I saw where sitting waiting for parts, or chrome work, etc. The ones on TV seem to be in better shape than the ones I saw when I visited the shop???? OK, big question here? Is American Hot Rodding back on television? Is it still on Discovery Channel and if so, what day of the week and time. Thanks everyone.
When Boyd's wife was showing that kid the store, she remarked that all of the cars in there are for sale. I wonder if anybody who ever buys a car from Boyd keeps it?
AX I believe that was a 1964 Mopar, Dodge to be more specific.
Thanks, I saw the first episode a couple weeks ago and it wasn't very memorable since they were just basically going to do an engine swap and repaint, except for the crate Hemi!
