Proving they were juiced will never happen. However if you were to graph (I did this) player performance from 1994 to present, you will see an obvious spike from 1998 to 2002.

Here in Seattle, we have seen this with our very own Brett Boone. Four years ago, he was a Golden Glover with 37 home runs and was on top of the world, to being currently unemployed. Hitting a baseball at 95 mph is a very difficult thing to do. Some people even say it may be the most difficult thing to do in professional sports, I do not know for sure. One thing I do know however, is that the body and mind must be in perfect sync and harmony, and any abrupt changes in this will lead to failure, or a slump as we call it. It seems odd to me, that since the use of 'roids has been exposed, Sosa and Bonds have not hit as well since '01-'02.

Steroids is not going to make you a great player.......

What Bonds has done is insane and he even does it every year by leading the league in walks. That is CRAZY!!!

There are all kinds of substances out there that all athletes are taking...whether it is just creatine or steroids they are all substances that supposedly help muscle tissue in different ways. Some are legal and some are not...should we just ban all of them? Some guys drink gatorade and some guys drink water.....Gatorade has been proved to enhance the body to rehydrate itself better than water. If we are going to pick on these guys for all these different substances then shouldn't we just ban anything that is supposed to improve performance whether it is legal or not? Want to level the playing field even more? Ban excercise and multi vitamins too!

Sosa is a fake....Bonds is the real deal....check the stats....Bonds has been breaking the walk record every year......if you walk 200+ times a year that does make it harder to put up insane numbers. Bonds the past few years has only been getting 1 or 2 decent pitches a game(if that, normal players see that every at bat and probably 5-10 times a game). You cannot even put Sosa in the same category as Bonds.

When the players stop wearing that rediculous body armor except
for the ankle pads then you'll not see as many walks, the point is
the players are'nt afraid of the ball so they stand on the plate, and of course some players wear it cuz the pitcher is after them.
do i know what im talking about not always but my observations??

That's what I was getting at earlier. Also, Sosa is still the only player to hit 60+ round trippers 4 years in a row. (Or was it three??)

I disagree.

I have seen first hand what steroid use will do. No other drug (legal or illegal) has a greater performance enhacing effect than a steriod regiment. Steroids will make mediocre players great, and great players (as in the case of Bonds) even greater.

Although he has denied the use of steroids, Brett Boone once again is a perfect example which refutes your above statement. Brett Boone went from pounding 10-15 home runs a year and a .230 BA when he was with Cincy, to banging 37 homers and a .330 BA in 2001 when he was in Seattle.

Remember, big bucks are on the line here. You got two chances in the big leagues; One to get there, and the other to stay there......

I do agree that 'roids can make a few HR's a year difference. I won't agree on it raising an average substantially............In this day and age of utility players in the millions $$$$ I also don't believe a great fielding, decent hitting for average ball player needs to juice..............

IMHO, roids can make an average HR hitter great..........It may even make a better base stealer (even though there will never be another Ricky) but for the other aspects of the game, I don't see any incredible benefit.

I agree with DOHCmarauder.

You still need a great eye to ball to bat contact to even hit the ball.

It's a guessing game on what the next pitch will be.

Steroids can't help you there.

And don't forget that maybe some pitchers may also be juiced. I don't know.

Tell you what though, the best battle I saw was between Bonds and Gagne.

Gagne's last pitch to Bonds, 103 mph; then a splash in McCoveys Cove.

Definitely steroids, but you first have to make contact; roids can't do that.

But I still don't care for Bonds outside the diamond.

That is because Boone went from a REAL league (National) to the American league! If Bonds was in the American league he would hit 100 HR's a year! hahahaha

Sierraben,
With the proper strength and technique you can throw a fast ball
over 100 mph (without the help of performance drugs). Shoot I
was throwing 97mph fastball pitches on merely strength at 17,
I can only emagine how fast if i had technique and a coach to help
me combine the two, i could have been pitching TOM SEVERS
fast 110-120mph. But those guys hitting the ball in the upper
decks and in the water outta the parks now thats a drug related.

You don't know that.

What about Mickey Mantle, hitting the top rung of Yankee Stadium? The only person to ever really have a reasonable chance of knocking one out. Was he juicing? He was probably just coming out of a hangover!
