Just getting around to installing my tranny temp probe. I think the end of the probe is bottoming out. The probe is about 3/8" longer than the service plug (think it's the right plug, just above the second pan bolt on drivers side).
I remember reading about someone else having a similar problem, but can't find that post. Anyone else have this problem?
Guage & senor are both Autometer Z, I bought it over a year ago, but just now putting in.
that probe is longer than the one that came with my gauges (VDO). i do remember someone posting that there was a problem with the trans probe form auto meter and they re-designed it, maybe you coud contact them to find out

Here's a link to a pic; hope this works:
That subject came up earlier this year. If you contact Autometer, and tell them about the probe......they were send out replacements that were shorter at no charge. I don't know if that still holds true.....but it should.
Called Autometer this morning and they said that's the way the tranny temp units were produced (#2640). Got some story about how the probe was never intended to go into the service port and then said I could order a shorter probe (part #2259). It's $11.50 so I went ahead and ordered it.
I didn't press them on a free replacement since the kit's been sitting in my shop almost a 1.5 years waiting on me to install it.

did they tell you where it was intended to go, because after that story i would give them the exact place i would intend them to put it...
I have ISSPROS but the instructions said to add washers on the threaded end to match the length. They sent the washers with the install package and it worked fine.
