Autometer tranny temp probe location

I installed my new Autometer gauges in my 2000 F-250 over the weekend. Only problem, after getting all the great tips on here before I started, the location recommended on the driver side ahead of the electrical plug on the transmission is too small for the probe on my Autometer 2615 transmission temp gauge. The plug in the transmission looke to be about 3/8" and the probe is app 1/2". Is there another location where this will work? Thanks in advance, everything else worked out great once I get the t for the boost connection.

I T'ed into the line goin to the cooler. there has been some debate on the acuracy, but it works. you'll definetly know if the converter isnt locking, or how hot it is. so your still a step ahead.

Sounds to me like they sent you the wrong sending unit. I would call Autometer and verify that that is the correct unit before I went to a great deal of effort to find another spot for it (I would request that they send you one that fits correctly). Most everyone on this forum used the pressure port you refered to with no issues. Since it is an electric sender, it might not even give the right temps.

Its actually a mechanical gauge with a hard wired probe. Is everyone else using an electric sending unit? I thought they were all the same. The port opening is just too small. Now I dont know what to do.

Ok, I called Autometer. Apparently if you want the full sweep gauge like I did, you have use mechanical in the Z-series. To do this you have to weld a bung into the pan to accept the sender. Now I know why everyone else used the shorter sweep temp gauge. But..... since the a-pod and gauges are already mounted, I guess I'll remove the pan and weld in the part.

since you're gonna drop your pan and go through all that mess you should install the sonnax valve and tricumulator springs. Just my .02 from my experience. I had to change out pans entirely and SpringerPop suggested the same to me. Best $50 bucks I've spent!
