54 Panel van data plate

Bought a 54 panel van and the data plate is missing.
I am trying to have a plate reproduced.

What should the wheelbase read? is it same as pickup 110?
Max veh wieght?
Any DSO codes for this year and if so what are they.

Thanks

Is there any thing in the serial number that says its a panel van?

Cueball,
Welcome to FTE. The info you seek can probably be found at one of these locations.
John's webpage:
http://www.clubfte.com/users/jniolon/fordspecpage.htm
George's webpage for Earl:
http://www.clubfte.com/users/earl/Re...%20Information
There's lots of info on dimensions and data plates. BTW, I think your wheelbase is 110"
Good Luck,
Kent

Dso

Thanks for the links.

Nothing on either one about any DSO codes?
Also nothing about anything in the serial number fto tel its a panel van?

Do you know the measurements of the US data plate?

I have a Canadain 53 f-100 and the data pale is 6x 1 7/8.

I downloaded a picture of a USA data plate and it was 7x 1 7/8

Is the USA data plate bigger???????

Once again thankyou

Cueball,
I don't think there is anything that identifies the data plate as being from a panel van (or vice versa) and I've never seen anything on DSO codes on the plates, either. I have a data plate for a 54 and a 56 at the house and will measure them this evening, if no one else can confirm the dimensions. Is yours a Canadian Ford or Mercury?

Good Luck,
Kent

The 53 F-100 I have is a Canadain Ford Deluxe model.

The 54 panel van in Question is US truck on its way here form SC just bought it.
Should be crossing the border soon!! Can't wait, LMAO!!!!!

DSO stands for Domestic Special Order. You won't have a number in the DSO location if there was nothing special about your truck (I know we all think our trucks are special).

This web site http://www.mercury-pickup.net/mercurytruckdata.htm has a bit of info on the rating plates if you haven't visited it yet. Unfortunately, they don't appear to have the 1954 Canadian year. They do have the 1953 and 1955 years.

I just measured the rating plate from my US-Built 1956 (sorry for stealing your thunder Kent ) and it's 6" x 1-13/16". Here is a photo - I haven't taken the dents out of it or retouched the paint yet.

Just checked my 55 panel 6"data plate; it had the 239V8.
The top line, after the serial number, reads: 5000 110 113.5 3600.
The body is inside a dark garage, so I might have misread a number since I was using a flashlight plus my 59 year old eyes are needing reading glasses more and more.

By the way, the wheelbase should show, as it does, 110", since the panel and 3/4 ton frames (at least these) are the same as the F100 frames except for the added pair of bolt on channel frame extensions at the rear, which effectively extend the frame about 8 or so inches.

Actually there are some other differences with the panel frame: Gas tank mounts, the 2nd row of running board mounts, etc., but still on the same frame.

Data

So mine should look like this then

I was not sure if the DSO was left blank or if something had to be in there.
I wil have to resize down to 6" as the image I created this image from was 7".
Thanks guys.
Is there a reverse set of stamps available to restamp from behind plate?
I only have stamps that would indent from the front of the plate.

I can always just make a sticker but would like it to be as original as possible.

I did this in photoshop and was going to get a printer to print it onto aluminium for me.

Cueball,
As I see it, you've got two choices.
First, Mid-fifty sells a blank repro plate for $35. Or they will stamp one with your data for $100. I assume this is the correct style stamping, but do not know 1st hand. Unless you want an all original, completely light sided ID plate, you might get away with using your stamps.
Second, you can wait for George to do the plate for Earl. I'm sure by the time he is finished, there will be a well-documented step by step process of how to collect your own beverage cans, smelt the aluminum, roll the sheet, cut to size, stamp the holes, silk-screen the print and stamp the ID numbers!(Sorry, George, perfectionists are an easy target! And that's what you get for "stealing my thunder")

Good Luck!

I am going to try this myself first and see how it turns out.
My buddy works in a printing silk screen shop so he should be able to print it, its just the correct stamping that may be the issue.

But it great to know someone does it already.
I went to there site could not find a data plate but I have e-mailed to see if they have them.
Once again thanks..........

I just wanted to add from my earlier confusing post that my panel body is off the frame in the garage; the frame is getting power coated. I have to reread my posts better before posting to make them clearer.
