allright, i have a stock 77 highboy, whats the easy ways to tell if its the older style or newer? i believe it allready has the full floater dana 60's and im looking to do a full resto of it. any info regurading the great high boys would be appreciated, thanks. also it does have the dual tanks, one in the can and the other in the rear of the bed like normal f series with single tanks.
Well I am unsure what you mean by older and newer style hiboys....but the hiboys were F250 4x4 pre 771/2. They had a divorced transfer case, so 3 driveshafts, and front leaf springs that looked kind of like a smile from the side. The post 771/2 had married transfer cases and 2 driveshafts, as well their front springs looked sort of like a frown.
There were also many other differences but those are the 2 I find esaiest to spot quickly.
alright, well i know it has the divorced transfer case, and strangely enough i believe my 77 f150 does also, if not i do know it has 3 driveshafts none the less, 1 off the transfer case to a yoke then down to the rearend, i dont know if thats stock or not.
Here's one way to tell. Measure the width of the rear leaf springs. If they are 2 1/2 inches wide it's a early 77, if there are 3 inches wide it's the late 77.
