Need help with C6AE-U heads

Anyone have any flow numbers for the stock FE C6AE-U heads?

I am getting mine rebuilt right now and putting stainless steel CJ valves in them. The builder told me he would have to hog out the valve seat a little but they would be more durable than stock.

Trying to figure out what kind of hp/tq this thing will make as I am putting in a 33-238-4 CompCam (duration 262/270 Lift .513/520. with Performer RPM intake/Holley SA 670 and long tube headers. Got friends telling me to bank on around 350-360 hp but need better flow number info.

Any help is appreciated!

We need more information! What carb, what intake, what exhaust system, exactly how much compression, bore / stroke... I'm assuming it's a 390? I cant keep up with everyone's projects, so if you could refresh my memory. According to my book, those are high compression Mercury heads, with standard ports and valves. Should flow like a standard FE head.

I dont have numbers for those heads specifically, but I have numbers for D2TE-AA's, C8AE-H's, and C4AE-G's. There is a difference between the C4's and the C8's, as well as between the C8's and the D2's. The C4 flows the best, then the D2, then the C8. I dont know where yours is.

Here ya go Rusty.
Holley Street Avenger 670 cfm
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
Long tube headers (Hooker)
9:5.1 compression ration
66 390 FE
C6 tranny
Stock bottom end

Stock heads C6AE-U. I appreciate any info. If you got some stock flow #'s that would be cool. Thanks again.

Alright, I'm showing 356hp @ 5000rpm, and 444ft-lbs @ 3000rpm. I looked up the port sizes, and the C6 heads apparently use the same port size as the C4's, so I ran it using the C4 head flow data.

Thanks Rusty. I appreciate the help. I have been looking all over the net for some one that knows the 66 head flow data, but it is hard to come by.

Thanks again

Well, the only indication I got was on DSC's web site. If I should run it with the smaller port heads, let me know!

Ok..I thought I was right? but started to second guess myself after a 12 pack and 3 shots of Franklin County Spring water?? LOL..

I went down to my Neighbors house...(he restores Ford Muscle cars for a living)

And here's what ya have..the C6AE-R's were the first heads to be used in the 67 Model year...and one of a few that are getting hard to find (because of us guys who like to hotrod!! and they have the Larger ports and the Higher Exhaust ports which relate to a better High perfomance head with CJ size Valve and Excellent Flow when Ported..

Now with that being said....the C6AE-U's and the C7AE-A's are a smaller port head and have a lower Exhaust port (lower Exhaust port being better for building Torque) But not as much flow (as would be needed for HP)

But can still be a good head with CJ Valve's and port work depending on your build...

I hope this Helps....

Russ

Aha! I'll run it with the C8AE-H flow data. That comes out to be 309hp @ 4500rpm, and 438ft-lbs @ 2000rpm.

With CJ valves, it's 327hp @ 4500rpm, and 439ft-lbs @ 2500rpm.

I do have flow data for a set of ported C8AE-H heads, so here we go with that:

With porting and the stock valves, it'll be 370hp @ 5000rpm, and 452ft-lbs @ 3500rpm.

With porting and CJ size valves, it'll be 388hp @ 5000rpm, and 456ft-lbs @ 3500rpm.

And just for farts and laughs, with the porting, CJ valves, and a Crane 343941 cam, it'd be 417hp @ 5500rpm, and 439ft-lbs @ 4000rpm.
