n_stallr have you seen any problems with the door lock outputs on an 1105?
I've installed quite a few Astrostarts but not in the last couple years.
Today I installed one in my F-350 and unless I'm missing something I think that the door lock part of the module is dead. I get no outputs at all on any of the brown or blue wires. I tried calling Astrostart but they were closed already for the day. We didn't have another one in stock that I could swap the module with. When I hit the lock or unlock buttons I can hear the relays in the module click. We've got one of Astrostart's old test box tools and it shows nothing from the outputs, same as my testlight shows.
I didn't actually hook them to anything yet. I was checking to see if they were positive or ground outputs so I would know if I needed relays or not.
So Dmitri says you like Compustar systems?
From a professional standpoint of someone who installs over 600 remote start units a year, including 95% of a FoMoCo dealer's units, and over the last 13 years has installed about every brand and model of remote start including:
Bulldog, UltraStart, Crimestopper, All varieties of DEI, Ungo, Clifford, Avital, DirectStart, La-Z-Start, AutoPage, Vantage, Audiovox, AutoStart, AutoCommand, Omega and others, I stand firm by AstroFlex's products and decision to sell only to specialists. Their reasoning for only selling to dealers is that it keeps their producs reputable. If DIYer's who didn't know what they were doing installed the product, then had troubles or poor performance, usually they'd blame the product first. This in turns begins bad word of mouth and is soon followed by a bad rep and poor name recognition. As with all automotive electronics, proper installation is the key to performance.
However, i do understand that many DIYer's have the ability to install products correctly, and many do. I've seen some pretty decent DIY installs, and i usually give the customer due credit. Unfortunately I've seen many more shoddy, unsafe installs than good ones. Imagine yourself as the techline guy who has to try to explain to a DIYer who has no electrical knowledge the proper method of interfacing with single-wire lock/security systems, transponder systems, GM passlock systems and other that require multiple relays and resister values. On some vehicles if the correct ignition wires aren't powered up in the correct order you'll set codes and the check-engine light. There's many vehicles where i spend more time removing panels to access wires (Volkswagon Beetles come to mind) than i do actually wiring anything. I could go on, but i wont.
I'm glad your project went smoothly, and I'm willing to help any member attempting their own installation the best i can. I was once a DIYer myself. I just wanted everyone to understand why some Manufacturer's have the policies they do.
Compustar is good. I put the two way in Dimitri's truck. Lots of range. I just don't care for the transmitters on the one way but Ithink they changed them. And if you don't have anywhere to hook up the glow plug wire you can't program a wait to start time unless you use a timer relay, or buy their programer. But I think they may have changed that to.
Does your truck have negative locks(factory keyless) or reverse polarity(no factory keyless)?
Astro-Start here and love it.......and yes dealer installed. I figure the guys in Alaska should know best and they all answered Astro-Start
I will put my money on the guys that install for a living. With a working range of 2000 ft radius it can't be a bad thing. I have a diesel and set the temperature mode in the winter when no plug is available.
Ground the blue/white and the brown/white and hook up the blue and brown wires to your door lock wires. Those 6 wires on the astrostart are onboard relays(87,87a,30).
I'm looking for a good autostart/alarm for my 03 f350. It already has the keyless entry as I have the lariat package. The heated seats are nice in the winter, would there be a way to hook them up with the remote start? Reading the posts, it looks like there are quite a few options out there. n_stallr, what's the price for the Autopage RS850 installed? What part of ND are you from? Maybe I should have just stopped in while I was up last week for a few days visiting my mother for Christmas.
