Remote starter

I have put many Bull Dog remote starters on gas vehicles with much success. I want to put a remote starter on my F-350. Which brand do you recomend using on a diesel? I do have an automatic transmision.

I have the Code Alarm CA-530 system on my '05 gasser and love it. Believe this model was Ford's Silver system. Cost me $275.00 dealer installed cause I wanted them to warrant the system. This system can be programmed to accomodate diesel features such as plug warm ups and delayed shut down for turbos.

I put a Hornet 564T in my truck (gas), bought it for $229 online and had a buddy install it. It has a 2 way pager and the range is incredible on it. It has the startup and shut down delay as well (even though I don't need that feature). Here's a link:

I use the remote start - summer (especially) and winter. I had mine installed along with a Python 881XP alarm system. Both flawless. Wonder how I ever got along without it.

This is all good. I want to try a different remote starter other than Bull Dog. The Bull Dog is not very reliable. They do have great tech suport. Thank you for the info and keep it coming.

What about the range on the Ford remote starter, Cap?

As we all know from owning SDs and surfing FTE, the Ford keyless entry fob on the SDs has almost no range--sometimes it's 50', sometimes 0'--and, it's only 50' IF you hold the fob under your chin, and the wind is right.

I've removed plenty of the Ford "remote start" kits and re- installed Astrostarts for a local dealership. I can knock out Super Duties in about 1 hour, with all wires fully tape bundled and soldered.

Let me know what year your truck is, as most 2000 and newer don't need tach adaptors.
If you have an 02 or newer, check for Ford's PITA "slam lock" function.

BTW, I've personally witnessed more than one "Bulldog" start module let the smoke out of itself. That stuff is very difficult to re-insert unless you purchase bulldog's smoke re-insertion kit. One I was troubleshooting for a customer (not my install...we refuse to install ANY outside purchased remote start or alarm kits for liability issues ) actually thought I wanted to roast marshmallows and personally allowed for me to do so by providing a nice yellow flame on or about the exact time I dropped the dash panel. Customer was pleased it waited until he got there.

In 13 years of 12 volt I've installed practically every brand and model. Since Astroflex introduced the Astrostart 2106 model, and all subsequent models, it's the only remote start I'll sell and install. We average about 2 warranties per year of 600-700 a year. We service 2 dealerships, and are about to pick up another. Remote starts (or autostarts as we hicks call them) are a NECESSITY in ND. The only time we don't sell/install an Astrostart is for Alarm/Start combos where security is the priority. then we do Autopage RS850's. If the start range is the priority we sell the Astrostart 5204, as the range is better.

Good luck on whatever venture you choose.

Astrostarts range "up to" 2000 ft. Based on experience I'd say 12-1500 easily

My Astro will go three blocks in town. Five blocks highway. Through buildings, it doesn't matter. Very impressive and worth the quest of finding an installer/dealer.

Peace

I put a viper on my F250. You can set the delay to accommodate for the glow plugs. I have not had any proublems.

Crimestopper makes a great remotestart , 900er7, set up for the ford slam-lock,also diesel, ive been installing since 1977, the place I work at does over 200 plus remote starts every year, defect rate on the crimestopper brand is very low, there are also a lot of other good brands out there, Craig.

Ive had a much different experience with Crimestopper. I've tried using their stuff 3 different times......only to be repeatedly burnt with warranty problems. Usually remote troubles. Swore em off after the 3rd strike, as did the disto that was supplying me.

Havent touched em in 5 years so maybe they've made improvements.

I stand by Astroflex solidly. Most flexible, programmable and reliable units Ive ever installed.

Slamlock is easy to interface with most every brand.

Astro allows glowplug interface, both (+) & (-) without relays, or 15 & 30 second time delay on crank, or both (although I have yet to figure out why )

1 onboard completely programmable relay.

On board doorlock relays.

4 completely programmable (-) outs & a dedicated GWR ... this is a huge time saver

I also really like the new man trans interface, as it means no more dedicated man trans model to stock. Just add in on to customer's choice of start and program module.

Complete set of fault codes that actually mean something.

The programming options on these units cover everything.

Variety of pin-outs for almost every option. Clock/timer start, alarm sensors, transponder/passlock interfaces...ect.

Optional programming tool that allows changing programming without requiring main module access. Also double as VOM and tach.

All models use identical plugs, making quick work of those customers who at first don't want to "spend that much", then a week later decide they want the 2 way model.

I could go on, but I feel my point is clear. These guys know how to build remote starts.

Got info coming on some new brand..... rep is bugging me about.

Scytek? Says the 2way start/alarm includes a camera that actually snaps a photo of intruders when alarm is activated? Seems out there, but who knows? Anybody do these?
