I have a 2014 f 350 diesel with the factory installed remote starter operated by the key fob. The fob became unprogramed when I dropped my keys in water. My dealer made me a new key but it will not activate the remote start. The horn beeps when I try to use the fob to start the truck. Can I reprogram the fob myself or do I have to pay the dealer to reprogram it ?
If the dealer charged you for a new remote fob, they should have programmed it...I'd call them and tell them you bought one so it would work like the last one..
Only a few things that will prevent a remote starter from working assuming it's programmed right.
- hood is open
- truck is already running
- alarm was triggered
- fault code in computers. These don't always show up on screen aka check engine light.
- disabled under advanced setting on dash
I assume you have two sets of keys and one was not dropped. Try that set of keys. Verify that hood is latched and it's turn on under settings to double check.
From there yes dealer should reprogram your key or possible battery reset on your truck. Both are quick and easy for dealer to do. Less then 10 minutes.
