Is it safe to put a remote starter on my 03 so I can warm it up on these cold mornings without going outside! If so what is best brand to go with?
Thanks
Ford makes a bi-di unit for it's vehicles. I've been thinking about buying one. The part number is bt4z-19g364-a
I had a Python 950 on my 03. Still have it in a box somewhere, now that I think about it. It worked pretty well and had a range of up to a mile. My wife has had a Python 950 in her van for close to 5 years, still works like the day it was installed.
I'm sure there are a lot of other good ones out there. I think anything made by directed electronics (python, viper, clifford, etc) is going to be reliable.
Had AstroStart installed on mine and never had a problem. I can start the truck from my work place inside a building, so keep an eye on the range they offer when searching for a remote starter.
I have the Viper (Model 4103XV) installed in my truck. The start delay can be set anywhere from 1-90 seconds. I usually have it set so that it at least waits until the injectors finish spooling in the colder months. Then the runtime once started can be set anywhere from 1-60 minutes. Another thing I like about this unit is that once the truck is running I can hit the start button on the remote, remove the key from the ignition and lock up the truck. If anyone had the ***** to try and take off with it, it shuts off as soon as you hit the brakes. The only downside is that I have manual door locks (which I like) but it is just a wasted feature of this remote start system that I cannot utilize. So yes, it is safe as long as you get a system that is meant to be installed on a diesel. Just don't forget to crank up your heat/defrost when you park your truck for the night.
