Yet Another Computer Question

At one time many thought that daily startup and shutdowns would cause the chips to go through heating and cooling cycles that would shorten their life. I've never heard or read expert comment on that theory though. I do think startup is the most stressful operation on the hardware. Especially when the power can't figure out whether it's going to stay on or go out, BLINK, BLINK, BLINK. I see more PCs fail on startup than any other time. I leave my PC at work and PCs at home on 24-7. Many laptops have over heating problems and I'd say it's best to shut them down when not in use.

Desktops 24/7

Leaving your laptop plugged in all the time is a bad idea. It will shorten the life of your battery. If you never run off battery, don't worry about it.
