Just a lease comment here- the days of cheap leases are over. I just figured a 36 mo lease vs. a 72 mo purchase on a '06 PSD yesterday- the payments were about $5/mo apart.

Well...hopefully I won't ever go the 72 month buy route...but notice I didn't say never.

Dealers don't like it much but I negotiated a purchase price then brought the leasing company in to buy the truck. My lease was based on the price I negotiated.

My lease contract is based on my #'s. Will I get as good a deal again, probably not.

polarbear, I think you would be shocked at the deal I struck. Especially for a lease.

BTW: Apologies for getting off topic here guys.

I probably wouldn't be- but when you say the lease was based on your numbers, it sounds like an open-ended lease as opposed to closed-end. One benefit of leasing a PSD up here is they're worth many thousands more at lease end than Ford's residuals- not true in your area.

You'd still have to do some fancy math to convince me leasing is a better deal than buying. I've pencilled it every way to Sunday.

Generally speaking I wouldn't try to convince anyone to lease. I haven't leased since 1976 (back when you could buy back @ salvage @ end of term). Until now.

Just happen to work out better this time.

I will PM you polarbear.

If the poll is accurate on the ratio of V10s to 6.0 PSDs then it would indicate how much more trouble free the V10 is than the 6.0 PSD. I am very surprized at the results of this poll but to be truthful, I have never met a dissatisfied V10 owner in person, but I have met many people, like me, that had problems with the 6.0 PSD.
Nick, I would like to see a poll on how many people are buying a new 6.0 as opposed to leasing. I would like to see the same poll on the V10. I don't know how to set up a poll so if you could do this for me, I would appreciate it. Wrench.
You have a PM Wrench.

The V10 has been great for me. 106k miles and going...plenty of pull for my camper and boat. The only issue I have ever had was a worn hose.

Driven plenty of PSD's and like those too..I would have to go with the both catagory on this one.

I too am impressed with my v-10, it has 64k, it is a 2000, 4x4, harvest gold, supercab longbox, but on the flipside at work we have 5.4's, and 6.0 psd's and they also do not miss a beat, I'll have to vote both, the only fear that I have is the plug issue though

This poll was much closer then I thought it would be. Whether or not it proves anything, I can't say. We need votes to have accurate depiction.

Whether or not it proves anything

It can only reflect ownership of :

#1. FTE membership
#2. Only those that bother to participate in the poll.

In the world outside FTE the # diesels sold, within the window your poll offers, far outweigh the # of V-10s sold. That 's not good or bad, just the way it is. I wish though that someday Ford would provide some real #'s.

What is interesting and special about this poll is the fact that the participants are generally happy with their choices and there have been no verbal fist-a-cuffs, or mine is better than yours or, the "if you ain't with me your against me" syndrome.

Congratulations. Good job in your opening comments when you introduced the poll.

Ford doesn't provide these numbers somewhere? It seems I read a post somewhere that the V-10's are something like 13%-14% of total SD's built. Anyone else remember that, or did I dream it?

FWIW, 8% is the anticipated '06 build.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate that. I had to make it very clear that there was to be NO bashing on this thread, pure curiosity.

And something like 25-30% 5.4, the remainder PSD wasn't it?

I am just going to make a stab in the dark, and say that there would be many more PSD (and 5.4l for that matter) work trucks than V10 worktrucks, and worktruck owners generally aren't the type to visit websites such as this. That is a large population out of the PSD voting pool.

Another thing is that there is a huge community of PSD owners that visit other sites that are strickly diesel and out of those probably only a handful visit here regularly.
