Sorry Nick, didn't mean to hijack or make this difficult / controversial for anyone.
No harm, no foul. Didn't stir anything but my head. I did what BigDaddyTank suggested, and that was start a thread with a link to this in the 7.3, 6, and v10 forums. Got a lot more results after that. And its still fair. So, you actually helped with that comment.
This poll was actually closer than I originally thought it would be. More and more people chosing the V10 it looks like, either that, or the majority of the diesel guys didnt participate.
i have two v-10's, a 2000 f-350 and a 2002 f-350. the 2000 is hooked up to a 8000 pound trailer everyday, no breaks. no problems with either gas engine, aside from gas mileage, which is about 4mpg towing a trailer. i have a 1995 f-superduty 7.3 dump truck, a piece of crap. its a dog. has been through 5 turbos so far and it doesnt work still. my son just bought a 2002 7.3 f-350 crew cab, 70K miles but no problems at all. i have a 2004 F-550 dump truck with the 6.0, and man is it a problem. it was on its third crate engine at 13,300 miles, then a new turbo for the third engine at 17,000 miles. other then the problems, i like the 6.0 but wished it was a 7.3 now that my son has one.
My first SD was a 99 V-10 and I thought it was the real ticket...UNTILL I tried out an 02 PSD...man what a difference! The extra power is awsume and pulling a trailer over the passes in the moutains is unbelieveable! The V-10 kinda struggled BUT it was much better than the old 351 that I had. Had no problems with the V-10 but it was always in the back of my mine about the "flying sparkplug" issue. Liked the PSD so well that I also have an 03 that replaced another truck so now have a pair. No need to even ask which way I voted...it's pretty obiviouse!
Have two 5.4's & am on my 2nd V10. Been a Ford man my whole life. Have driven lots of 7.3's & 6.0's. Never had a negative issue with any Ford. Love my V10, just didn't make any sense for the driving I do to buy a diesel.
My ex drives an '02 F-250 2WD with the 5.4. I've driven it a couple of times, and it's a pretty stout package. I'll stick with my PSD though.
I think it really comes down to what you have experienced with the engine and what you use it for. People who do heavy hauling of equipment and etc. are most likely always gonna like their diesels better, whereas the V10 is more suited for medium sized campers and boats. I drive them both everyday and both have their good points and best suited applications, but i believe the diesel has more advantages than the 6.8L, especially for work. ........and it sounds cooler!

yea the v-10 is like a big electric motor. The reason I like my 6.8 is the lack of sound. It is truly quiet. 9 mpg pulling a 6500lb travel trailer. 10 mixed and 14 on the highway. It is 2005 supercab tq, 410 gears wedgewood blue arizona beige. An awesome truck. I drove both, like both but I don't regret my decision one bit.

Hmmm...we've sold a half-dozen V10's this model year, if that. A few dozen 5.4's, but most of those were fleet. And we deliver 30-50 SD's a month- do the math.
Either this poll shows that many 6.0 guys stay in that Forum only or the ratio of V10 owners is much higher than 6.0 guys because we all know the PSD far outsells the V10.
If the poll is accurate on the ratio of V10s to 6.0 PSDs then it would indicate how much more trouble free the V10 is than the 6.0 PSD. I am very surprized at the results of this poll but to be truthful, I have never met a dissatisfied V10 owner in person, but I have met many people, like me, that had problems with the 6.0 PSD.
Nick, I would like to see a poll on how many people are buying a new 6.0 as opposed to leasing. I would like to see the same poll on the V10. I don't know how to set up a poll so if you could do this for me, I would appreciate it. Wrench.
Have a '99 PSD, 4X4 with 80,000 miles on it. I am waiting for the '07 to show themselves and get one. I am considering a V-10 for that one, I do not haul as heavy a load now and the PSD might not be what I need. But what to wait and see what is under the hood.
A buy to lease poll may be interesting trivia but, otherwise why?
As a school of thought : The lease guys (which I am one) will have an advantage at the end of term if diesel prices plummet the value of used diesel trucks by taking the casual buyer / lessee out of the market. Basically dumping an abnormal # of used diesels on the market that no one wants.
Plus, with the advent of a new motor coming and the perceived reputation of the 6.0...who knows what the used 6.0 will bring to the market as they start dropping out of their lease contracts.
The lessor gets stuck with a higher than market value residual (in most cases).

Better them than me.
Yep I agree, but with all things being equal (which it never is) but the likelyhood of diesel's dropping more than the gasser's is not very likely. The 6.0 reputation will possibly hurt resale (especially on the 03' built engines) you leasing, may have been a very smart move. Good Luck!
