I have an '87 B2 EB with a power window problem. I have gone through so many threads I can't see straight any more but have determined that my problem is the nylon gears on the electric window motor which run the regulator. The motor runs when I hit the button, up or down, but the wnidow does not move accordingly.
My problem is, everyone seems to be saying that it's an easy fix, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the thing apart without completely tearing everything out of the door.
Do I understand correctly that the electric motor can be removed without taking out the regulator? Does anyone have pics of where the bolts/rivets are that are ony for the motor? There is also a reference to a "dimple" that needs to be drilled.
I have both the Chilton's and Hayne's manuals for the B2/Ranger and have found them to be of no help as far as this job is concerned. I am fairly handy with tools, but this one has me scratching my head, but I feel like the problem is that I'm missing something obvious.
I'm trying to get this job done while taking as little apart as possible, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Ken00, Do you know where the "concealed motor retaining bolt" is, It's mentioned in the Chilton's manual, and says there is a dimple to be drilled out to gain access to that bolt, but I can't find anything that I would call a dimple on the door there. Just want to make sure that I drill out the right rivets.
The guy at Napa told me that on his old Bronco, he dremeled out a big area of his door to be able to get to his motor, I don't know if I'm that gung ho yet, but I'm getting there. I do see now (don't know how I missed it before in the manual) that the motor and regulator have to come out together and be separated on a workbench.
I'm also going to have to do something with the driver's side power window, as it keeps locking up in the fully closed position. All I have to do is tap the motor itself with a small hammer, wrench, screwdriver or whatever else I have handy and it works fine again for a few days, but it's getting old! I'll post any amazing insights I come up with here, but it won't be for a few days, they don't stock the parts here and it had to be ordered.
I took the p/w motor out of my '86 Ranger by drilling holes in the door where the three mounting bolts are. Two were visible, so they were fairly easy. The third one is really hard to see, but you can feel about where it is. I drilled a hole where I thought it was, then I could see where it was through the new hole. I then put another hole in the right place. I think a 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch hole is enough, and you will need a deep socket. You end up having new holes in your door, but the panel covers them up anyway, and you'd never be able to get the third bolt back in without the hole. Be careful to secure the regulator before you begin - I tied mine off to the door frame. The window will fall when you remove the motor. Good luck.
there you go, i did the same thing, just drilled holes so i could get to the bolts, the guy who did the other side before i got the truck used some tin snips it looks like! not too smart.
