Okay, long time lurked here, thanks guys/gals for a ton of info!
Now my question: 2005 X 6.0 Diesel, playing around I held my odometer select/reset button down while I turned the key to ignition on, not start. Got a wealth of codes and numbers but no idea what they were (except for test gauge). Pressing the button cycles through the info. Is there a reference for the info the truck is providing?
Holding the ODO button puts the instrument cluster into test mode. Very little of that info is useful in a real time situation. IIRC, the digital tach is the only thing that's displayed in a usable format. Many of the other pieces of data displayed require a math equation to understand the information. That renders the info all but useless while you're trying to drive.
The original purpose of the test mode is to verify the correct operation of the HIC(Hybrid Instrument Cluster) as they roll off the assembly line at the factory.
If you want something really useful, a ScanGuageII is the best bang for your buck.
Yup, already got myself one due to advice seen here and well worth it!
And duh to me, a little more searching and I found the info on another post or two!
Moderator, any chance of deleting this post since my question was already asked and answered?
Absolutely, been lurking there too, so much info it's taking a long time to digest it all!
HINT: "subscribe" to threads of interest - or things you THINK you
WILL need in the future. It's a huge time saver and saves printer ink!
My "someday" next task is a 3-ring binder with tabs to organize and
find things even easier. Now, where did I put the 3-ring binder????
Then you can look @ your "subscribed threads" and FIND them easily
in the future. It also helps when folks put the question in the SUBJECT
rather than "I have a Q" which doesn't help anybody know what the topic is next time.
WELCOME to FTE - this WILL become your newest/favorite HOBBY!
