I have a 2009 F250 Diesel. For some reason I'm receiving a "Check Brake System" message on the Info screen of the dash. The message displays after starting the truck and the cabin light flashes once. It's not an ABS light, but an actual message. I ran the system check feature on the truck and it returns an "ok" for the Brake System. I've noticed other electronic features starting to act abnormal as well: dim dash lights, tach odometer lag, Bluetooth turning off, and the MPG resetting.
I took my truck by the Ford dealer today and the technician seemed confused as well. They were booked up all day, so he couldn't run a full diagnostic test.
My brakes are working fine. The owner's manual doesn't give much information about the message. Any suggestions?
Alternators can have a devastating affect on electrical systems when a Diode shorts out in the rectifier bridge.. It puts AC current onto the 12v buss ... I've had this happen on another truck and it was a bugger to find. Not saying that it is your problem though.
You may be able to just unplug the alternator to see if the problem remains but I am not sure on the newer trucks if that is even a viable option..
Nice thread. This message just started happening to me, too. Cold morning starts is when that message flashes. I'd miss it if not watching the panel - it is that brief.
Along with load testing the batteries and the alternator, ferret out all secondary (battery cables) and primary (smaller than battery cables) grounds and clean them, including the engine and firewall grounds. Same for the (secondary) positive battery cables as well, from the battery through the solenoid down to the starter. Bad grounds will wreak havoc on a negative ground DC system. Clean connections will make your whole system work more efficiently. Once you've cleaned and tightened said connections, spray some battery terminal protector over them to keep them clean.
