AC Compressor Clutch seized up?
Hey guys, I drive a 1994 Ranger 3.0L and about 2 months ago, my compressor clutch started spinning off center. Me and my dad took it off and looked at it to find that one of the 3 thin bracket things had snapped. We didnt have the money to get the new clutch and to rent a puller at the time so we put it back on. Today, I parked my truck, went into a store, came out and tried to start it, and my starter hesitated and once it started, i heard this high pitched squeal, followed by a smell of burning rubber, then saw a bit of smoke come from under the hood. I got a ride home and now am wondering what the problem is and what damage might have been done if its even relevant. Thanks a lot.

take the belt off of the compressor, if it is a V belt. Otherwise, you may end up having to replace both the compressor and clutch. Its not that big a job. Changed out the one on my '83 in about 2 hours. This includes the recharge. Check the junkyards.
